GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures’ animated documentary film “58th,” directed by Carl Joseph Papa will premiere at the 2026 Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR) in January.
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, GMA announced the world premiere of the docu-film, calling the project a long-planned act of remembrance and resistance.
GMA Public Affairs head and GMA Pictures executive vice president Nessa Valdellon said the film confronts the enduring culture of impunity surrounding the 2009 Maguindanao massacre, stressing that “forgetting is dangerous.”
Meanwhile, Papa said the film aims to give voice to victims who have been silenced and to stand in solidarity with families still seeking justice. “58th” focuses on Reynaldo “Bebot” Momay, the massacre’s 58th victim, whose death was not officially recognized, as told through the memories of his daughter.
Blending animation with archival footage, the film stars Glaiza De Castro, Ricky Davao, Mikoy Morales, Marco Masa, Zyren Dela Cruz, and Biboy Ramirez. It explores the emotional toll of loss and the continued struggle for acknowledgment, even after partial justice was served in 2020.
“58th” is Papa’s second film to screen at IFFR, following “Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)” in 2023. The festival runs from Jan. 29 to Feb. 8, 2026.
