‘Hamilton’ filmed version to screen in Philippine cinemas for 10th anniversary

Award-winning Broadway musical “Hamilton” filmed version will be screened in select Philippine cinemas for one week beginning Oct. 1.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Walt Disney Studios announced that more than 50 theaters nationwide will participate in the limited run, which marks the show’s 10th anniversary. The production, filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016, features the original cast led by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

The musical, which tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway music, was first released on the Disney+ streaming platform during the pandemic.

Special screenings were earlier held in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The United Kingdom and Ireland will follow on Sept. 26, while Australia and New Zealand are scheduled for Nov. 13.

The Philippine audience will also see “Reuniting the Revolution,” a new prologue featuring interviews with the original cast and creators about the impact of the show.

“Hamilton” received a record 16 Tony nominations in 2016, winning 11 including Best Musical, and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
