Up-and-coming band Sugarcane released its first EP, Memory, on Nov. 21. The six-track collection captured the highs and lows of relationships, from holding on and letting go to the intimacy of connection and the lingering ache of unresolved feelings.
The EP combines tender ballads with upbeat arrangements, pairing the band’s signature sound with lyrics that delve into vulnerability and emotional honesty.
“As our debut EP and body of work, Memory really holds a special place in our hearts,” Sugarcane said. “It was a challenge compared to our usual single releases, but it strengthened our skills as a band and our friendship. We’re proud of the result and thankful to everyone involved.”
The title track, “Memory,” is a collaboration with indie band The Ridleys and addresses coming to terms with a love that could not last, portraying the process of finding closure after a breakup.
To mark the EP’s release, Sugarcane held a launch event at Soundcheck Studios in Pasig on Nov. 21, featuring performances by The Ridleys and Quite Natural. It was also the first live performance of “Memory” by both bands.
Memory was Sugarcane’s first extended play, showcasing their ability to turn personal experiences into songs that resonated with a broader audience.
