BINI’s Jhoanna clarifies viral Sunshine review: ‘I appreciate the feedback’

BINI leader Jhoanna has addressed online backlash over her initial review of Sunshine, a film starring Maris Racal, after some netizens said she missed the film’s core message.

In a now-expired Instagram Story, Jhoanna shared her takeaways from the film, focusing on mental health and resilience.

However, some viewers criticized her interpretation, saying it overlooked the film’s main themes of safe sex, reproductive rights, and abortion as healthcare.

“Parang mental health yung takeaway niya sa Sunshine when it tackled safe sex and abortion,” one viral post on X read.

In a follow-up post, Jhoanna clarified her intent. “I appreciate the constructive feedback po,” she said.

“If my choice of words came across differently than I intended, I sincerely apologize.”

She added that she hadn’t seen the online discourse until a friend informed her, as she hasn’t been active on X.

“What I hoped to emphasize was the weight of societal pressure and how support systems and education empower people,” she said.

Jhoanna concluded by praising the film and remaining open to respectful dialogue: “It was a good movie. Definitely worth watching… I’m always open to learning from different perspectives.”
