Julia Barretto tormented by one unfortunate event

Young screen actress Julia Barretto finds it “so nice” to work with Tony Labrusca and with the people behind digital series I Am U. But same thing cannot be said of her character’s journey in the iWant series that starts streaming on Wednesday.

“This project enables me to explore different genres, I am able to work with different leading men, and different kind of materials, and different directors. It’s so nice to work with people, who are almost of my age,” Julia told reporters on Wednesday night during the series’ media conference.

Julia Barretto meets her doppelganger in iWant's latest offering, 'I AM U,' a mystery psycho-thriller that starts streaming on the digital platform on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

“At this point, I’m very grateful that I’ve been trusted with projects that are not the usual that I’ve done before. That I’m free to do some scenes and some roles and take more risks. That I can now take on roles fearlessly. Now I can be the actress that I’ve always wanted to be,” the 22-year-old actress added.

In the series Julia finds herself tormented by one unfortunate event after she crosses paths with a doppelganger, a girl who looks exactly just like her.

Julia plays Rose who unexpectedly meets Elise (a role she also plays). Their story later takes a dark turn as Elise’s friends face their deaths one by one.

Both thankful and in awe of the their similarity in looks, Elise invites Rose into her world, treats her as her twin, and shares everything she has—including her house, family, and friends.

As soon as Rose becomes comfortable, however, Elise sees her as a threat and suddenly wants her out of her life.

In a party that changes everything, Elise bullies Rose into hiding inside a closet during a game of “Truth or Dare.” While inside, an accidental fire ensues, leaving Rose locked in.

Elise and her friends cover up the tragedy and think everything is behind them–until one by one, they fall to their mysterious deaths.

Produced by Dreamscape Entertainment in partnership with The IdeaFirst Company, I Am U also stars Ina Raymundo, Richard Quan, Cedrick Juan, Kokoy De Santos, Adrianna So, Claire Ruiz, Lander Vera Perez, Yayo Aguila, and Jenny Miller.

Centerstage’s impressive new concept

GMA’s newest and all-original musical competition, Centerstage, proved to be a world-class talent reality game show as it raked in glowing reviews all over social media during its premiere on Feb. 16.

'Centerstage' is hosted by screen superstar Alden Richards

Kapuso viewers commented on the show’s fun overall concept set in a hi-tech and visually appealing stage.

As Centerstage kicked off its pilot episode, Hargie Ganza of Calamba Laguna was declared the first-ever challenger bida when she out-performed her fellow bida kid, Xylia Banaag in the final stage of the competition.

This week, the race to the most coveted spot continues with two new pairs of contestants stepping up to the challenge to be the next bida.

Watch out for the angelic voices of Daniela Cataytay, a 9-year-old Noranian and Mary Rose Ybañez, 10, who hails all the way from Baguio City.

On the other side of the stage, an intense vocal showdown goes down between future scientist-singer, Ralph Dorio, 12, and singer-dancer, Jhon-Jhon Once, 12.

Who among them will claim the centerstage and go against Hargie Ganza? And who will remain to step on the Ultimate Centerstage?

Centerstage is hosted by Alden Richards together with side stage host Betong Sumaya, and judges Aicelle SantosMel Villena, and Pops Fernandez.

Under the helm of Louie Ignacio, witness Bida Kids race for their dreams on Centerstage, every Sunday, after Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko on GMA-7.
