On-screen partners Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings are bringing a fresh dose of romance and deception to Netflix this love month with their latest film, Sosyal Climbers.
The streaming giant released the official trailer on Thursday, Jan. 30, teasing a high-stakes comedy about two schemers who adopt false identities in a desperate bid for financial survival.
The film follows a cunning couple, Ray (Anthony) and Jessa (Maris), who double as con artists, infiltrating high society by assuming false identities to swindle the wealthy.
“After being mistaken for new residents of a posh neighborhood, financially struggling couple Ray (Anthony Jennings) & Jessa (Maris Racal) hatch a scheme to reverse their fortunes and finally taste the luxurious life they always dreamed of. Their charade to fool the upper class will test their skill, their charm, and ultimately, their love for each other,” the synopsis stated.
As they settle into their new luxurious environment, the couple immerses themselves in high-society social scenes, attending lavish and opulent parties to forge connections with the elites. However, behind their newfound extravagance, they are driven by one desperate mission, and that is to secure P2.5 million to escape their dire financial situation. To achieve their goal, they must maintain their elaborate ruse and exploit their neighbors’ wealth while keeping their own secrets hidden.
Sosyal Climbers marks the first movie project for Maris and Anthony, taking the lead roles, following their successful pairing in the 2023 series Can’t Buy Me Love. Since then, the two gained popularity as “MaThon.” The duo also appeared in And The Breadwinner Is…, one of the official entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024. Currently, the two are co-stars in the action drama Incognito.
