‘Pulang Araw’ makes history as first Filipino TV Series archived on the moon

The hit wartime series Pulang Araw has been selected by the Lunar Codex project to be archived on the moon in 2025, making it the first Filipino TV series to receive this honor.

The show was chosen for its portrayal of the lives of Filipinos during the Japanese occupation of the country, a pivotal moment in Philippine history. It will be part of the project’s Polaris collection, which will be launched to the Lunar South Pole region between September and October 2025.

The Lunar Codex, created by Samuel Peralta, aims to archive works of art, writing, music, and film in time capsules on the moon for future generations. Since its inception in 2019, it has collected works from artists in 345 countries, territories, and Indigenous nations, with a total of 200,000 to 240,000 cultural items preserved.
