Videoke or karaoke is a big part of Philippine culture, with Filipinos celebrating a myriad of events with a good session of note belching and musical fun. TV5’s Sing Galing, the original videoke kantawanan ng bansa, honors this tradition by incorporating elements of videoke in a fun-filled singing competition where talented singers and celebrities showcase their talent while enjoying themselves.

As Sing Galing’s back-to-back finale draws near, TV5 planned several firsts and surprises to culminate the program’s successful run.

On March 5 and 12, the singing competition will celebrate the finals of the Ultimate Pa-Sing-Katan for the celebrity edition and Kantastic Finale for the regular edition, respectively.

The 10 finalists of ‘Sing-Galing’

TV5 partnered with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to hold the grand back-to-back finale at the restored Manila Metropolitan Theater. With this partnership, Sing Galing is the first TV show in Philippine history to celebrate a back-to-back finale at the renowned theater.

MET reopened after 25 years since its closure and now boasts of reconstructed furnishings that show the theater’s splendor.

Its first finale on March 5 features Sing Galing’s Sing-lebrity edition’s grand finalists, including Aljur Abrenica, Pepe Herrera, Patrick Quiroz, Boobsie Wonderland, Jerald Napoles, and Chuckie Dreyfus. Aside from battling each other in the contest proper, each celebrity contestant also chose their respective “bida-ficiaries,” who will receive a portion of their cash prize.

Since Sing Galing’s back-to-back grand finales have already set the tone for greatness by working with the NCCA for their venue, TV5 also tapped Facebook to become the first television show in the Philippines to utilize FB Messenger as the official voting platform of the show.

Fans and audiences, which the show fondly calls “Ka-awitbahays,” can vote for the Ultimate “BidaOke Sing-lebrity and Ultimate BidaOke Star” for free through the show’s Facebook page, thus adding to their favorite celebrity’s chances of winning.

There are three ways that the public can access this broadcast innovation. The first is by scanning the QR code seen on-air during the show or online to redirect them to Sing Galing’s Facebook Messenger. Next is by typing “VOTE” as a comment on Sing Galing, and lastly, by going to the Messenger app to search for the Sing Galing profile and cast their votes.

Ka-awitbahays can begin voting during the live shows when the polls will open.

By March 12, Sing-Galing will hold its Kantastic Finale again at the MET, including members of Team Galing, Kim Macaraig, Regielyn Fernandez, Jean Jordan, Jamaica Lamit, Dennis Santos, Mari Mar Tua, Kit Inciong, Cris Cerbito, Camille Peralta, and Myca Capili. But that’s not the only surprise that audiences can expect from the show.

The second Saturday of the month also marks the Pambansang Araw ng Videoke, an event that the NCCA supports as it highlights the Filipino culture of coming together through good music and genuine fun.
