How we celebrate the holidays this year will be completely different from what we’re used to. There probably won’t be any large gatherings, reunions, or office parties to attend—even bringing a small group of friends together might be hard to do. But that shouldn’t stop us from getting into the holiday spirit.
We’re just a few days away from December, and to kick off the festivities, Vanjoss Bayaban gives us an early present for Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
“Cupid Santa” is a classic heartwarming holiday song that knows to keep its message simple: love is the greatest gift you can receive.
With just one track, Vanjoss reminds us that it’s not the old traditions of hanging of parols or the feast of a noche buena that makes the season. The recent struggles our country has been facing hasn’t given people much reason to smile and staying resilient is easier when you’re not alone. Cupid Santa shares that spending the end of the year with the one you love is reason enough to be thankful.
Written and produced by Jimmy Borja, the legendary songwriter who gave us the OPM classic ”Sana Ngayong Pasko,” and Eymard Altoveros, this song already has the makings of a potential Holiday hit. It’s not hard to imagine people writing their own letters to Cupid Santa in Christmases to come.
These big names didn’t pair up with just any singer. Last year, Vanjoss won the hearts of viewers around the nation as a contestant in The Voice Kids Philippines. With the help of his coach Sarah Geronimo, his stellar performances earned him his title as 2019’s Grand Champion. Now as a solo artist under the guidance of MCA Music Philippines, he’s looking to push himself even further than before.
At only 14 years old, some might consider Vanjoss a bit young to be singing about finding love in trying times, but the song’s message is more about the heartwarming truth that we’re all still lucky that we get to spend Christmas with those closest to us––especially while we’re all locked down.
If someone as young as Vanjoss can lift us up with a holiday song about love, then all we really need to remember is that the very love that we give and receive will always be the most cherished of all.
