This classic 2009 track “Upuan” delves into the social inequality and unjust treatment experienced by most of the Filipinos. Under his second major label album Matrikula, the hip-hop rapper wrote “Upuan” to call out corrupt politicians using their position for their own benefit.
“Tatsulok” by Bamboo
Representing the symbolic pyramid of the society in the Philippines, “Tatsulok” (Triangle) discusses the unjust system that benefits the ruling class, privilege comes at the expense of the disadvantaged—especially those people suffering from poverty. Not a song, we know, but this 2019 studio rap album released by Sandata, a group of artists headed by Filipino rap artists and activists BLKD and Calix, offers 12 tracks that retells the narratives and socio-political insights into the Philippine drug war during the leadership of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
