Discussing history through performance

A new subject produced by broadcaster-journalist, poet, musician, and activist Lourd de Veyra, together with media personality, writer, composer, and sound producer Erwin Romulo will give young student-artists, enthusiasts, and professionals a much interesting view on the country’s rich past, as part of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB)’s revised curriculum for its Arts Management Program.

To give a glimpse on this exciting course, the two luminaries will conduct A History of Ideas, a multimedia presentation and performance on contemporary Philippine intellectual history and culture. It aims to analyze the past and review the culture from a historical perspective and further bring these concepts to current times.

De Veyra is known for his eponymous show History with Lourd, a 30-minute documentary series on TV5 and Aksyon TV where he brings his own brand of history lessons and trivia in Tsismis Noon, Kasaysayan Ngayon. He was also the vocalist of Radioactive Sago Project and is currently the guitarist of Kapitan Kulam. He authored several publications including his first novel SuperPanalo Sounds!; This is a Crazy Planets, a collection of essays from his Spot.ph blog; The Best of This is A Crazy PlanetsEspiritu, and Little Book of Speeches. He also published three poetry books entitled Subterranean Thought Parade, Shadowboxing in Headphones, and Insectissimo

Composer Erwin Romulo 

Meanwhile, apart from being the founding editor of Esquire Magazine, Romulo is also an established film score composer known for his collaborations with distinguished filmmakers such as Erik Matti and Lav Diaz. His works were included in Gayuma, Honor Thy Father, Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2, On the Job, and Super Noypi.  As producer, he continues to work with the iconic Ely Buendia of Eraserheads and Apartel on his music videos.

A History of Ideas is on Saturday, Aug. 4, 6:00 p.m.at the 5th Floor Theater of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s School of Design and Arts (SDA) Campus, 950 Pablo Ocampo (Vito Cruz) Street, Malate, Manila.
