The audience will be more forgiving of a singer whose emotion is genuine even if the notes are a little off in places than one who is technically perfect but displays no expressiveness or enjoyment during their performance.
Singing from the heart and feeling the mood of the song will add natural emotion to your music. Ask any singer or vocalist and he or she would say that you should always put your life experience — good or bad — so you can relate to and express well through your singing.
But what if the song’s message is something you haven’t experience before, say like a serious romance?
“That’s the real challenge,” says Klarisse de Guzman who shared an afternoon with some members of the press in a recording studio inside the ABS-CBN building.
The homegrown Kapamilya talent is all set to fascinate listeners this year as she promotes her much-awaited, self-titled album Klarisse, her first major project with her new record label Star Music.
The second placer in The Voice of the Philippines season 1 recently released her seven-track album, all love ballads in Tagalog, featuring the female balladeer’s beautiful voice.
The song “Wala Na Talaga,” theme song of the Kapamilya Asianovela My Dearest Intruder, is the album’s carrier single.
Also part of the We Love OPM contender’s latest offering is an original composition by the award-winning singer-songwriter Dingdong Avanzado, the all-time favorite “Paalam Na.” She also has a duet with Morisette entitled “Ikaw Ay Ako,” the heartwarming theme song of ABS-CBN’s former hit Kapamilya Gold series Doble Kara.
Klarisse’s 2016 Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs entry composed by Joel Mendoza, “Sana’y Tumibok Muli,” is also included.
“I’ve never been heartbroken before, never been in a relationship either. I’m an NBSB (no boyfriend since birth). That’s one of the challenges I encountered in recording the album. I have to immerse myself into the song. I had to imagine the emotion in the lyrics so I could feel the message,” she enunciates.
It turns out that behind all that romanticism there is just a rather vivid imagination since the singer is reveals that she has never had a boyfriend before. But obviously, she’s able to capture the attention of the listeners. It’s a clear indication that her effort to study the songs she has recorded now pays off.
The Birit Queen’s album, produced by Rox Santos, also includes other emotional ditties like “Sa Pangarap Na Lang,” which is currently creating buzz on air, “Eto Na Naman Tayo,” and “Mahal Mo Pa Ba Ako.”
