Ending the world in funny, cliché way

Young director Miko Livelo decided to end the world by bringing out the undead in the new horror-comedy Sa Haba ng Gabi.

The movie, which stars the “laugh out loud trio” from Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam Candy Pangilinan, Jerald Napoles, and Kim Molina, streams exclusively on Vivamax and will be available in more than 70 countries starting Oct. 29.

In the horror-comedy, Pangilinan is Neneng, a housemaid in an old and lavish mansion owned by a senator. She invites her cousin Jhemerlyn (Molina) to work with her. Needing a job, Jhemerlyn instantly accepts her cousin’s offer and soon discovers that the mansion is where the senator brings his mistresses.

All is well for Neneng and Jhemerlyn in the mansion, except for the senator who came home one day looking very ill. Eventually, they found out on the news that a virus is spreading throughout the province which turns humans into zombies. During the apocalypse, the senator’s driver Noel (Napoles), also seeks refuge in the mansion. The three of them start to spend the longest night of their lives inside the mansion watching TV, flirting, and trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.

“The movie is the perfect setup for the pandemic.  And since it’s a Halloween movie, expect na maraming eksena ng gulatan at katatakutan, but with comic touches so it’s like a roller coaster ride,” Livelo said during the film’s virtual press conference.

“The story happens in one night. I know, there have been many films having the same theme, but this one is more about how three people trapped in one house are able to survive in one night and how it changed their lives and their relationships,” the director added.

Livelo started his career as a motion graphics artist and directed his first film Blue Bustamante in 2013, which gained international recognition when it premiered at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in 2014. In 2019 he directed the friendship-comedy film ‘Tol, and the fantasy-comedy adventure film, Unlilife.

For his new horror-comedy, Livelo teams up with award-winning filmmaker Erik Matti as producer.

Talking about the cast, Livelo had nothing but praises for the trio describing them as very collaborative.

“Working with them is so enjoyable as they’re all very talented. They all shared some inputs on how the movie would go and even about the characters, kunsaan nila gustong dalhin the roles they play,” he said.

“You can see in their bonding that they’re enjoying working together and that’s made our work much easier considering we’re only shooting at night from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.,” the director ended.
