It takes three to tango

For stage director Paulo Valenciano, doing a show is not just all about business. For him, it’s more rewarding and he feels more inspired to do a concert when it has something to offer than good performances—it has to have a statement.

“Well it’s good that we earn, or that we make money, but without a statement, the key message that we are trying to say, it’s just business, there’s no takeaway. Those are the kinds of projects that are so tiring, I easily get burnt out with those kinds of projects,” the 35-year-old son of Gary V said during the press conference for a pre-Valentine show featuring the vocal talents of Christian Bautista, Aicelle Santos, and Mark Bautista.

Christian, Aicelle, and Mark  come together for a night of vocal prowess—mixing pop, jazz, and a pinch of theatrics—for their concert dubbed as 1 for 3 on Feb. 1 at The Theatre at Solaire.

“But you know, seeing them meet late at night when they’re free, that’s how we’ve been meeting since months ago, we say, ‘let’’s figure this out.’ I love that they have that mindset, you guys are asking about their TF (talent fee), I witnessed them in that conversation where the tree of them said, ‘You know what, let’s forget about the TF, let’s just make this a beautiful show,” Paulo shared.

“Man, when I hear things like that, or when I work with people like them, it really drives me to make it the best possible show that we can make. There’s not a lot of artists like them in the industry that’s why I’m really excited to do this show,” he continued.

The three music stars are celebrated for having left their imprint on the international stage, each one recognized for various artistic endeavors in the industry and applauded for possessing a voice that withstand the test of time.

“But the best thing about them, this concert is something they came up with as producers, as well as long-time performers and friends,” Paolo said of the three artists’ passion to stage the concert.

For Christian, they designed the concert to showcase what they have become as singers and stage performers and how their music evolved to stay relevant.

“The concert will show who we are now, what we can do and what we can’t do now. And even our personal lives have changed so the show will feature a lot of things other than our voices. That’s what people should expect from us,” Christian said.

At present, Christian, Aicelle and Mark are part of GMA’s newest musical-comedy-variety show All-Out Sundays.

Under the helm of musical director Mel Villena, 1 for 3 is set to feature songs that promise to move, enthrall, and spark joy among the audience.

1 for 3 is presented by Solaire Resort & Casino in cooperation with PLDT Home. For tickets, call the TicketWorld hotlines at at (+632) 8891.9999 or visit their website atticketworld.com.ph.
