Some potent dose of ‘tito jokes’

Comedy has always been there to relieve us of our woes. Whether it’s an inside joke or anything that’s trending on social media, no matter how many times we hear the punchlines, they seem to have only gotten finer with age. Just like our favorite “tito jokes.”

There’s something charming about the kind of humor only our uncles, fathers, and other old souls in our group or family can deliver. With proper timing, of course, old man jokes never fail to make us laugh.

“That’s the kind of joke that he have here. It’s an old-school kind of comedy that we wanted to reintroduce to the younger generation,” says Dennis Padilla, who stars in a new movie along with Andrew E. and Janno Gibbs.

Back in the ‘90s, Andrew E., Janno, and Dennis thrived in making people laugh.  Their chemistry had been proven in the ’97 film Si Mokong, si Astig, at si Gamol.  A couple of decades later, it is interesting to see how the trio can entertain both their Gen X fans and the millennials with their brand of comedy.

Now, the comedic trio is back as they bring old-school comedy in Viva Films’ Sanggano, Sanggago’t Sanggwapo, under the direction of Al Tantay.

This reunion movie follows the story of Andy, Johnny, and Dondon whose troubled-filled lives get more complicated because of deceit.

Upon the death of millionaire tycoon Don Robert Endrinal, Andy and Dondon (Andrew E. and Padilla) find out that their friend Johnny (Gibbs) is actually the son of the departed businessman, and naturally has the right and responsibility to take over his father’s business.  But when they arrive at the mansion, the indolent Johnny tells everyone that Andy is Johnny to free himself from any responsibility.  The hardworking Andy and the cunning Dondon play along with this charade.

Now that the three friends are thrust into a life of affluence and power, flirtatious women are not far behind. They also have to deal with a certain Mr. Russel (Eddie Garcia), a land developer determined to acquire Johnny’s hacienda, turn it into a casino complex and make the whole province a gambling capital.

To what lengths will Andy, Johnny, and Dondon go to protect the hacienda and keep their secret at the same time?

Sanggano, Sanggago’t Sanggwapo will not be complete without the men’s love interests played by Louise delos Reyes, Cindy Miranda, and Vanessa Wright.

Julian Trono, Vitto Marquez, and Andrew Muhlach appear as the young versions of Andy, Johnny, and Dondon.

Sanggano, Sanggago’t Sanggwapo opens in cinemas on Sept. 4.
