This natural form of self-expression, a powerful tool for creativity, will never get old as it continuously evolves into something to suit the taste of every generation. This gives us a better reason why we should train the spotlight on people who express their inner feelings through body movements and expressions.
Paraphrasing what Gary V said during the press conference for Circuit Makati EVOLT International Dance Festival 2, he said that dancers are sometimes considered as “forgotten entertainers” but their role in the entertainment industry, in concerts and live performance, is as crucial as the role of the main act.
“Some people think that it’s an easy task, but there is so much that goes into it. Although I consider myself a singer more than a dancer, I have high respect for dancing talents. They deserve a stage of their own,” he said.
Produced by Istudyo Ni Pipay Co., EVOLT is a weeklong event which consists of free dance workshops that are open to the public; a prestigious dance competition as participated by university-based and community-based dance groups from all over the country; a night-bazaar curated by The Common Good Market; and a concert extravaganza that assembles a mammoth sampling of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
The festival officially kicks off on June 2 with a series of special performances by online sensation and TV personality Lady Pipay and the different competitors of the event’s dance championship.
With a distinguished panel of judges that includes Julie Borromeo, Regine Tolentino, Maribeth Bichara, Nancy Crowe, John Supan, and Frank Rivera the competitors of the festival’s dance competition are all vying for cash prizes of over a million pesos in total.
Award-winning concert director Paolo Valenciano will direct the festival’s main and culminating event which happens on June 8 at the Events Open Ground of Circuit Makati.
The concert is headlined by Mr. Pure Energy himself, who is considered as one of the most successful and most enduring mainstream artists who has made an indelible mark not only in pop and inspirational music, television, and films but in the art of dance as well, who currently served as one of judges of the recently concluded World Of Dance and is also one of the regular hosts of ASAP Natin ‘To.
R&B star Billy Crawford, dance champion Gab Valenciano, and Darren Espanto, along with Regine Tolentino, Lady Pipay, AC Bonifacio, and Nhizky Calma as well as K-pop artistsChic Angel and Rion Five complete the lineup of performers.
The concert will also showcase an eclectic range of dance genres as performed live by artists like Alab Poi Dancers, A-Team, G-Force, Hotlegs, It’s Showtime Dancers, Tribu Ilonganon of Dinagyang Festival, Julie Borromeo’s Performing Arts Foundation, Manoeuvres, Manoeuvres Ignite, Mauban Nilala Folk Dancers, MNL Crew, Douglas Nierras’ Powerdance, Power Impact Dancers, Rockwell, Sexbomb Dancers, SB New Gen, UPeepz, Vicor Dancers, and XB Gensan. The celebration will be capped with a party powered by DJ Ace Ramos.
