Our definition of sexy has changed over the years. Beautiful women who have whistle bait bodies may be viewed physically attractive but they can’t automatically be called sexy.
In our generation, sexiness is still subjective, as everyone has different ideas of what makes a woman attractive and desirable, but we now tend to look beyond the person’s physical appearance. It’s no longer just the clothes, makeup, or hairstyle. A woman’s attitude, talent, accomplishments, and popularity are now being taken into consideration.
Case in point, popular magazine FHM lists down the sexiest women via an online poll. The more popular someone is, the higher her ranking is going to be. Though it definitely looks like more of a popularity contest, FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women list is the only sexiest ranking people excitingly anticipate especially that the poll culminates in a victory party, a general men’s interest exposition called bro-con (brother conference) where fans can see the women they voted for…in the flesh.
FHM’s sexiest poll is not just popular. It’s also controversial in many ways. While feminists see the ranking as something that makes women commodities (well, it actually does), many female celebrities, whether they admit it or not, still eagerly wait for their names to be on the list. It’s some kind of validation for them.
Leading this year’s partial poll is Kapamilya Nadine Lustre. The other half of the popular JaDine love team has remained the frontrunner since “FHM Philippines 100 Sexiest Women in the World” poll began this year.
The latest partial tally from FHM, released last Friday, indicates a surge of votes for a few Kapuso stars as there have been significant movements since the last update. In second place is Kapuso sexy comedian Kim Domingo who jumped from 5th to 2nd. The model-turned-actor edged out Angel Locsin who has slid down to fourth place.
Meanwhile, The Dubsmash Queen, Maine Mendoza, makes a strong bid for the sexiest woman in the world title as she enters the Top 10 based on the latest partial result. She could surprise everyone with a come-from-behind win after a series of Instagram posts showing her curves.
Joining Mendoza as new entrants in the Top 10 are Maja Salvador (#8) and Andrea Torres (#9). The three new faces meant that Marian Rivera, who has won the title a record three times, Arci Munoz, and last year’s winner Jessy Mendiola exit the list.
After getting booted out of the top 10, Mendiola instantly got trolled for not being able to make a strong bid to retain the title.
“I am not going to die if I don’t become part of the FHM sexiest list,” she told bashers in vernacular.
Probably, one of the most controversial FHM sexiest winner, Mendiola has been popular among bashers ever since she dominated the sexiest poll last year garnering almost half-a-million votes from FHM fans and readers.
Other names in the Top 10 are Rhian Ramos (#3), Ellen Adarna (#5), Jennylyn Mercado (#6), and Solenn Heussaff.
