For director Bona Fajardo, the possibility isn’t farfetched. In his new outing for Viva Films, Fajardo explores the idea of a couple celebrating only their second anniversary, yet giving their relationship a timeline that it ends there despite the fact that they are still very much in love with each other.
The question the director asks is “Hanggang kailan?” or, in English, “Until when?” and it is also the title of the movie with Xiam Lim and Louise Delos Reyes as the couple who travels to Japan to celebrate their second anniversary. It is going to be their last trip together as a couple and it is also how they will end their relationship.
This BluArt productions and XL8 collaboration with Viva Films is a continuation of Viva’s examination of romance as previous films like 100 Tula Para Kay Stella and Sid & Aya (Not A Love Story) and Bona Fajardo’s search for the true meaning of love and romance that he began in his previous outings I Found My Heart in Santa Fe, Kahit Ayaw Mo Na, and Iliw.
This pre-Valentine film with Lim and Delos Reyes as the couple Donnie and Kath should unsettle couples that have been complacent about their own relationships and should trigger questions on how strong their commitments to their current relationship.
In the film, before they totally go their separate ways, Donnie and Kath take a four-day/three-night trip to Saga, Japan.
During the trip, will the couple rediscover each other amid picturesque landscapes? Will new memories be made or will hearts break?
“’Pag nagustuhan mo ang sine ituloy-tuloy mo na yan… kung ano ‘yong hinahanap mong ganda, kung anong istorya, nandiyan naman lahat ‘yan, makikita mo ‘yan,” Bona said at the press conference for the movie recently.
This film puts Lim and Delos Reyes together onscreen. Lim used to be with Star Magic of ABS-CBN but hopped over to Viva Artists Agency. DeLos Reyes left GMA Artists Center for Viva Artist Agency to try something out from what had become her comfort zone, television.
The movie is a welcome project for Delos Reyes and she’s glad she is now able to work with other actors most of them she just watched on the TV screens, like Xian Lim who also expressed his pleasure in working with other actors and actresses outside of the confines of a TV network.
DeLos Reyes said she’s willing to try different roles to keep honing her craft. And to ensure she stays in the business longer than just being a sweet pretty young thing on screen. Last seen on TV in the Kapamilya series Asintado she was also in the movie Para sa Broken Hearted (October 2018). It’s interesting to see how her team up with the Chinito Heartthrob would plow out something her fans haven’t seen yet.
Meanwhile, Xian’s involvement in this movie goes beyond acting. The XL8 mentioned above is his new venture. Like Louise, Xian is not afraid to try new things. Last year, he started his basketball career, playing for Mandaluyong El Tigre in MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League). Around that time, he was also part of the box-office hit movie Miss Granny.
Hanggang Kailan? opens in cinemas on February 6.
