Ian Veneracion finally reveals his musical talent

Many were surprised when Ian Veneracion met the entertainment media recently for a press conference for his first-ever musical show called Ian: In 3 Acts.

At Mesa on T. Morato, it was a jam-packed restaurant as the former child actor-turned action star-turned matinee idol tells members of the press that he has long been a closet singer and a musician…he plays the piano and a couple of other musical instruments. And that is apart from his non-showbiz vocation…painting (he has had a couple of exhibits in the past).

Ian is one of the entertainment industry’s popular television and film stars. Apart from that, he is also an in-demand product endorser.

Ian In 3 Acts is a concert that is very much different from the fan shows Ian does on his breaks from his teleserye and movies.

Ian said, “We structured it like a movie in 3 acts and it will show the talents many of you and the fans are not familiar with the Ian Veneracion you have known.”

Primarily known as an actor who can entertain his fans in mall tours and overseas shows, the concert features his lesser known but surprising musical talent.

One writer asked why he took him this long to come out in the open as a singer. And his answer? “Nobody asked.”

He will do cover of some popular songs; show off his guitar and piano-playing skills and debuts songs he wrote in a musical set pieced together by a narrative, similar to a sequence in a film.

The audience will be treated to the Ian they know; surprised by the Ian they don’t know and entertained by Ian, the complete performer.

Ian: In 3 Acts, produced by Dreamwings Production Inc., is also conceptualized to be a more intimate and relatable experience for the fans back-dropped by stunning visual imagery projected on giant LED screens conceptualized and directed by Mike Alcazaren. They have already shot a music video for Ian’s original song “We’re All Alone”, a bluesy song about the travails of an artist constantly in the spotlight. The music video will be released on social media soon but its live performance will debut in the show.

The first of the series of shows shall be at the Grand Pacific Ballroom of Cebu Waterfront on April 21. The show will also feature L.A. Santos and other special guests.

Ian: In 3 Acts on May 13 will be at Resorts World Manila. Tickets are available at the customer service of SM City Cebu, the lobby of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino and on-line at Ticketworld.

Ian Veneracion will stage a concert  at  at the Grand Pacific Ballroom of Cebu Waterfront and at the Resorts World Manila.

ABS-CBN remained as the top TV network in the country in March as it swept the top ten list of most watched programs and recorded an average audience share of 46 percent (excluding Holy Week), compared to GMA’s 32 percent.

That is according to data from Kantar Media.

The Kapamilya network kept its lead nationwide, particularly in Metro Manila where it hit an average audience share of 42 percent versus GMA’s 27 percent, and in Mega Manila where it got an average audience share of 37 percent, compared to GMA’s 35 percent.

ABS-CBN also ruled in Total Luzon where it registered 42 percent, beating GMA’s 35 percent; in Total Visayas where it scored 56 percent, compared to GMA’s 25 percent; and in Total Mindanao where it garnered 54 percent versus GMA’s 28 percent.

Multinational audience measurement provider Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (41.3 percent) took a solid hold of its position as the most watched program in the country in March, followed by the reality-talent search Pilipinas Got Talent (38.1 percent). La Luna Sangre (37.2 percent), on the other hand, thrilled viewers up to its gripping finale, while newest fantaserye Bagani (33.4 percent instantly entertained (or fascinated) viewers on its first month of airing.

The inspiring stories in MMK (31 percent) also touched viewers’ hearts, while TV Patrol (30.7 percent) brought relevant news stories to more Filipinos in March.

Also part of the top ten list are the values-laden series Wansapanataym (25.8 percent), the funnier Home Sweetie Home (24.4 percent) as it welcomed new characters in the series, the current affairs program Rated K (23.2 percent), and the hit primetime series The Blood Sisters (21.3 percent) with Erich Gonzales.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN also won across all time blocks, particularly in the primetime block (6 p.m. to 12 midnight) where it garnered an average audience share of 51 percent, or 21 points higher than GMA’s 30 percent. The primetime block is the most important time of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investments in to reach more consumers effectively.

The Kapamilya network also reigned supreme in the morning block (6 a.m.to 12 noon), where it registered 39 percent, compared to GMA’s 32 percent; in the noontime block (12 noon to 3 p.m.), where it hit 45 percent versus GMA’s 35 percent; and in Total Mindanao where it recorded 45 percent, beating GMA’s 36 percent.

VIU, a leading Asian digital content provider popular for its online distribution of K-Drama and K-Pop shows, recently announced its full support for Globe Telecom’s anti-illegal site advocacy, #PlayItRight.

VIU Country Manager in the Philippines Arianne Kader-Cu said that Korean drama has a huge base of follwers in the country with an estimated 22.5 million Filipinos watching online.

“The soul of K-Drama and K-Pop are the Korean idols who depend on the revenue of their projects to remain popular. We are supporting Globe #PlayItRight to protect and champion the rights of actors, staff and even the viewers of Korean content through #VIUItRight,” Kader-Cu revealed.

Globe Senior Vice President for Content Nikko Acosta expressed the company’s gratitude to VIU for its support for the company’s advocacy. “Globe with the help of its content partners like VIU wants to send a strong message to the public to consume digital content the right way. The support given by VIU strengthens our aim in promoting good content by using the right avenues to watch, stream or play Korean content,” Acosta said.

Kader-Cu added that #VIUItRight also encourages its millions of Korean fans to support #PlayitRight to ensure that their actors and actresses’ superstardom stays alive in the industry. “Fans are the major stakeholders in the careers of Korean acts. They are the deciding factor in whether an actor, a drama, or an idol becomes a hit. They can literally make or break careers, and their participation in accessing online content through the right channels would go a long way towards helping their favorite actors and idols achieve their dreams of stardom,” she said.

From the first Annyeonghaseyo in “Bright Girl”—the first Korean drama series that aired on Philippine television—in 2003 to dancing and singing to the music from the likes of Big Bang, BTS, Girls Generation, and Twice, the Philippines has come a long way in its appreciation of Korean-made content.

The love affair of Filipinos with Korean content has intensified through the years with Pinoys, teens to the 40 something, consuming everything Korean – series, films and music. Pinoy fans camp out the day before concert tickets are sold to their favorite K-Pop bands. Tickets are always sold out on the first day. With such clamor, the Philippines has become one of the top markets for Korean content consumption.

#PlayItRight through #VIUItRight encourages Filipinos to help their Korean idols accomplish their dreams by watching content legally and rightfully.

'Contessa' star Glaiza de Castro

The Kapuso network seems to have found another series that they can mine for several months again, that is if viewership doesn’t falter.

In the afternoon series Contessa, Glaiza de Castro is Bea Resureccion (take note of the literal allusion of the last name to its plotline) who is fueled with rage to fight for justice.

Life hasn’t been kind to Bea. She’s imprisoned for a crime she did not commit, and experienced the murders of her husband Marco Cabellero (Mark Herras) and mother Linda Resurrecion (Tanya Gomez).

Already, after its early March pilot, the Kapuso fans seem to have found another vehicle on which they can relate their angst-filled lives.
