Jerico Estregan, son of actor-turned-politician ER Ejercito, stars in a new action-horror by Francis Jun Posadas. The movie is called Amalanhig: The Vampire Chronicle and will hit the screens nationwide soon.

Estregan, a De La Salle University graduate in political science and a master’s degree in Communication with a major in applied mass media, is no neophyte actor. He has been in several movies prior to landing a lead role in Amanlahig. He has worked with his father, one-time governor of Laguna and who previously went by the screen name s Jeorge Estregan, in movies like Ben Tumbling, Asiong Salonga, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Muslim Magnum 357, Across The Crescent Moon, and Mandirigma.

“I am very excited to have been cast in this movie because I really love doing action stuff in movies,” says Estregan who placed seventh at the recent 8th Asia Pacific 2017 International Body Building & Fitness Championship.

In this vehicle, he did all the stunts without a double. “I think it doesn’t look good for action stars not to do their own stunts. That’s why I made sure that the stunts I did for this film were those that fit me as an athlete and body builder,” he said.

Estregan is a track athlete and competed in the Track & Field Open in March in the 400-meter dash. He placed seventh overall in the men’s division, all against Philippine team members in the finals. He is also the record holder in the UAAP Track & Field (February this year) after running in the first leg of the 4 X 400-meter relay representing the DLSY track & field team under coaches Jeoffrey Chua, husband of Elma Muros, and George Posadas. That’s apart from his Most Valuable Player award in the NCAA Track & Field Championships in February 2009 in which he competed and won gold in the 800-meter run, 1500-meter run, 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 meter relays, and silver in 400-meter dash and bronze in 400 –meter low hurdles.

Currently, Estregan is brand ambassador and coach of Nike + Run Club Manila. While he is very active in athletics, he is also very serious in carving a niche in the movies, action movies specifically.

“They say that action movies are dead, but if you look at what indie directors are working on these days, these are action movies, like Amalanhig. It’s about a group of graduating medical students who wants to find the truth in what is written on an unfinished letter with blood stands with references to human vampirism virus.

Years ago there was a killing spree in a village called San Esteban that only clues to who the perpetrators are were in that letter. The group goes to the village to find out the mysterious creature involved in the crime.

Estregan said, “You have to watch it to find out what happened to the group, if they were able to discover the truth behind the crime and how.”

ER Ejercito, who said he’s not a stage father, accompanied his son to meet members of the press who were all stunned when the young man showed off the body that earned him the title Mr. Philippines/Mr. Athletic National Champion in 2013.

Amalanhig also stars Sanya Lopez, now one of the popular female stars on GMA Network.
