How to smell like Arjo

Known for being one of the well-groomed among the present crop of male young stars, Arjo Atayde is proud to be the latest endorser of Beautederm along with Carlo Aquino and Matt Evans. He headlines the brand’s new line of perfume called, “The Origin Series.”

“I’m happy to be part of the Beautederm family which is owned by Tita Rhea Tan. As you all know, my mom (Sylvia Sanchez) is also one of its original endorsers so I’m glad I was hand-picked to be its latest model,” he avers.

Does he love scents?

“Basically, I do. I’m a strong believer of the series I promote which has three variants namely, Alpha, Dawn and Radix. This is perfect to capture Beautederm’s A-B crowd. For one, the scent is not sticky which makes it more appealing especially to yuppies.”

With him looking always sleek and sharp, many ask what his grooming rituals are.

“It’s hard to maintain a perfectly flawless skin for actors like me because of our hectic work schedule. Our tapings or shootings reach the wee hours of the morning so it’s inevitable that our skin breaks. Especially in my case since I have sensitive skin. I just wash my face as often as possible and practice controlled eating which is high on fiber,” he says.

When it comes to perfumes, he became more conscious with it when he started showbiz. That’s why he considers the offer to become a brand ambassador for Beautederm as a blessing. For the following months, fans will see the actor busy promoting the Origin series since Beautederm will open 10 more stores until December this year.

Meanwhile, after Hanggang Saan, the actor will be absent from the teleserye scene for a while. He requested for a two-month break.

“Imagine, I was taping for Ang Probinsyano for two and a half years then came Hanggang Saan, which lasted for five months. I just wanted to recharge. That would give me ample time to concentrate on the new movie I’m shooting,” he explains.

Asked as to his preferred leading ladies on his next projects, the be-dimpled Kapamilya cited four names.

“If given the choice, I would go for both Julia Montes and Sue Ramirez. They’re two of the most brilliant actresses of their generation. I would also love to work with Bea Alonzo and Maja Salvador,” Arjo states.

According to Piolo Pascual, he is very much aware that his high level of popularity in show business is not forever.  He believes that nobody’s indispensable in this field.

“Any moment, the stardom you enjoy will be gone. You wake up one morning and you’re no longer famous. I realized this early on,” the A-list star says.

The award-winning actor just wants to be grateful for all the blessings he received in the field.

“Twenty years in here is really a huge blessing. Not all stars reach that time frame. This fact humbles me. I’m 41 now so I’m taking advantage of this time and the kind of opportunities I am given.”

That’s why competition with other male stars especially the new ones is not part of his vocabulary, so to speak.

“It’s not about being at par with someone. I believe that for you not to get hurt, you shouldn’t be competing with other people. I can say that I’ve reached this point already.

“I don’t compare my achievements with anyone and more so, myself. But I race against time. It’s all I have right now. I want to make sure that I’ll be able to use it wisely.”

He has an on-going soap over at ABS-CBN titled Since I Found You opposite Arci Muñoz, Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez. But prior to this, his last huge TV offering was Hawak-Kamay in 2014. Between those years that he had no regular soap running, did he get bothered because viewers would have forgotten him?

“Actually, visibility is one strong factor to sustain a star’s popularity but for me, your focus should be more on what fresh things you can offer the public which would entice them. I believe that there’s a purpose why I’m here in the ‘biz. That’s what I hold on to!”

Unknown to some, there came a point when the handsome actor considered leaving showbiz.

“Yes, that was some four years ago. I made plans of just settling in the States. Then came the offer to do Starting over Again with Toni (Gonzaga). After the movie became a mammoth hit, I realized that it wasn’t yet time for me to quit.

“I thought there are still a lot to explore and accomplish, like producing films. Last year, I was very proud that Kita Kita made money at the tills. I’m glad that I tried to venture into this field. Every day, I have new learning. I feel challenged and it’s fulfilling as well,” ends Piolo.
