“This is the first time that I was able to play this kind of character. Definitely, it’s a wonderful thing to realize that at this point in my life, I still have lots of discoveries about my craft, my talent and it’s such a blessing to be able to be given the chance.

“Of course, I cannot take credit for everything in the process into making the character of Valerie who she is because it’s all teamwork. Like when it comes to make-up, we have very good make-up artists on the set. The costume I wear also undergoes meticulous studies. Really, it’s just a combination of everybody’s efforts to come up with good and interesting material.”

Maricel has only good words for her director and co-stars noting that they have a well-written script and a competent director.

“With Ian Loreños as director, it’s impossible for you not to deliver. All of us are geared towards one vision. I’m also glad to bond with my fellow cast members. We would fight in the scenes but off-cam, we just laugh it off.”

Many find her portrayal of her character amusing.

“Some hate her but some like her. In fact, even my children imitate my delivery of the dialogue then they laugh. People are really involved and it’s just amazing,” she shares.

The award-winning actress cites her senior co-star Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo as an inspiration for her to consider staying longer in the ‘biz.

“Just being with her, just experiencing her at this time of my life is a wonderful experience. I’ve known her for so many years. Just being in her presence has really allowed me to believe that I want to grow old in this business. For one, she’s very positive and bubbly. Her professionalism is tops and it’s such a joy to be around her all the time with her positivity,” ends Maricel.
