‘Bagani’ starts pilot week with controversies

Members of the Manobo tribe appealed to the production team of Bagani, ABS-CBN’s newest primetime series, raising their concern of improper use of term “Bagani.” They feared that the term might be misused and be given an entirely different meaning as the show progresses.

“Bagani,” as Manobo people claimed, refers to great warriors in their tribe who are able to kill at least four ruthless people or animals in defense of their customs and tradition, people and values.

The issue even reached the office of a Commissioner from CHED (Commission on Higher Education), who sought for a meeting with ABS-CBN production to clear the air and ensure that proper measures are implemented.

‘Bagani’ lead cast member Sofia Andres

However, ABS-CBN management quickly issued its official statement that it’s never their intention to malign or disrespect the historical concept of “Bagani.”

“To be clear, the Bagani fantaserye does not purport itself to be a historical account of Philippine history and culture,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Sofia Andres, one of the show’s main stars, figured herself in another bashing incident from netizens.

In a related bloggers’ conference for Bagani, Sofia was reported to have displayed quite an attitude especially when she answered questions from a Mangyan blogger.

Sofia allegedly pouted her lips and raised her eyebrows which were interpreted by the bloggers in attendance as “rude and nasty.”

When Sofia was bombarded with similar comments and remarks on her social media account, she just replied, “Too tired to be too nice.”

We don’t want to believe what others are calling it as her moment of proving her being a star, but there were blind items alleging her as one “angelic face with an attitude.”

It is Glaiza de Castro’s shining moment now.

We are happy to know that she is headlining the new soap, Contessa.

De Castro feels grateful that GMA gave her the role of Contessa/Beatrice “Bea” Resureccion, who is accused and imprisoned for a crime she did not commit and later tries to seek redemption.

“I’m so honored and thankful. This is another challenging project so I need to step up and be responsible. I never want to fail GMA for their continued trust and confidence in me,” said Glaiza during the show’s grand presscon.

In the series, she is paired with Geoff Eigenmann and Jak Roberto.  The cast includes Chanda Romero, Tetchie Agbayani, Gabby Eigenmann, Leandro Baldemor, Bernadette Allyson, Melissa Mendez, Tanya Gomez, Karel Marquez and Lauren Young. Portraying a very special role is Mark Herras.

The series is airing on March 19, right after Eat Bulaga.

John Pratts is another talented artist who wants his share of “shining moment,” too.

According to him, his time for re-invention has come and he is very grateful to Cornerstone for allowing him to do it.

“Ang bilis. I simply presented myself and told Erickson Raymundo (the company’s owner) that I wish to venture into concert directing. Tapos eto na,” said John, who is still seen in Ang Probinsyano, ASAP and Banana Sundae.

To improve his craft, John said that he does a lot of observation and research specifically about the technical aspects of the job.

“I am not going to venture into something without any proper knowledge. Syempre may baon naman ako kahit paano. Cornerstone is so accommodating, so I’m obliged to level up,” he remarked.

Among the concerts Cornerstone has assigned him to direct are the shows of Erik Santos, Richard Poon, and K Brosas, to name a few.

Good luck direk John!
