Silence of the Roses

Dirty linens, exposed. Exhibited the many skeletons inside their cavernous closets. Opened their many versions of Pandora’s boxes and definitely showed how to use social and traditional media to their advantage.

As a matter of fact, if we are to gather the number of print media and entertainment portals who did exhaustive and supposedly exclusive versions of their fight, all those paper, space and energy could have been an entire tropical rain forest.

CALM AFTER THE STORM? The controversial Barretto sisters seem to be all quiet even on social media 40 days after the death of their father.

Most of us followed their unfolding melodrama without fail. Without any signs or warning, the Barretto family feud, all of a sudden, stopped. Before they even eclipsed the Kardashians and give Shonda Rimes’ more material for Scandal, Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine’s collective lips are sealed. Some even declared them as the Philippines’ incarnation of the Kardashians, not in terms of moolah, but in outrageous behavior and emotional flare-on.

Did we expect this “calm” after this modern day tempest? After being bombarded with complicated story arcs, the sisters were more than willing to divulge. Can we therefore conclude that  it (the feud) is indeed over with finality? Is it now expedient to unearth from what seemed to have been not only a national past time but obsession life lessons?

We cannot deny the fact that scandals and gossip, for as long it does not involve us and our loved one, we dig and lap up, hook, line and sinker. Every bit and morsel of salacious details, especially if popular and political figures are part of the equation, we relish. We take seconds and thirds. We even opine and take sides.

Being good looking is relative.

Piolo Pascual may be the most handsome of them all but he is no match for the charms and virtues of an Atong Ang.

Power and money is the most potent tool for seduction. A man who possesses both, will be worshipped and vestal virgins who dream of a better life, are more than willing to sacrifice their morals.

Being truthful, does not always give you the upper hand to get the public’s sympathy. Some truths are better kept unsaid.

Yes, the Baretto sisters may claim and justify that their major err in all these – they were and are in love, no shame in being human who only followed the dictates of romance.

No judgement here, Gretchen, Marjorie and Claudine, are not book covers. Of legal age and know what is best for them.

Let us just allow the Universe to reap what they sowed. And answer whoever they need to answer, whether in court, history or God.

Just a gentle reminder, please tell your daughters, sisters and female family members, do not “aspire” to be a Baretto. Give them more information and examples of other women who may inspire them, especially in the matters of romance and choosing one’s lifetime partner.

We have no inkling if the Barretto family feud will be rekindled in the nearest future. What is important now, this seeming ceasefire in a fine indicator that maybe, they are in their contemplation and reflection cycle.

Patriarch Miguel Barretto 40th day of death concluded with no noise and a lot dignity. Which of course, he so deserved. Shall we now therefore conclude, that all that were said and done, the Barretto’s finally realized that indeed, “blood is thicker than water?”
