Aside from the burning flame that Jericho Rosales and Yeng Santos share as lovers Lino and Jackie in Halik, slowly stealing the thunder from them is the pairing of Christian Bables and Hero Angeles who give life to the characters of Barry and Ken.
Barry is Lino’s best male pal. Ken, meanwhile, is Jackie’s best fairy friend. Halik’s pool of writers deserves all the commendation for pushing the pink story arc between the two.
Last April 16, after the freak gas incident that happened inside the premises of the Monte Corp edifice, Jackie and Ken were both saved. Jackie had her precious moments with Lino. And yes oh yes, Barry and Ken shared tender times together, too.
As a matter fact, Barry confessed to Ken how strange and beautiful his newly discovered feelings for his dear gay friend. Kilig overload indeed. Members of the pink community heaped praise and congratulation for Barry and Ken as if they are a real life couple.
Bables and Angeles were able to pull the scene off because they played for truth.
Bables recollects, in this short interview, when he learns he is part of the Halik cast, “When I was offered this show and they informed me it’s going to be with Jericho, I immediately said yes. Sabi ko nga, kahit tagahugas ng paa ni Jericho Rosales, wala akong pakialam. Kung mayroon pang mas mabigat na word for idol, that’s Jericho for me. He’s an icon for me. I have massive respect for the craft, and then seeing Echo do the craft in him, iba eh. He was like a growing up idol. And to be able to work with him, isa sa mga bucket list ko ang na-check-an ko kumbaga.”
He continues, “I feel so blessed working with Echo dahil bukod sa nagkaroon ako ng mahusay na katrabaho, nagkaroon ako ng kaibigan. When there is something about the industry that I do not understand, it is easy to seek an audience with him and inquire. Also, every time na magkaeksena kami, nararamdaman ko yung puso sa puso. Nararamdaman mo yung puso ng isang actor na passionate. It feels so good that you are doing a scene with an actor who treats you well and gives so much.”
“Every time umaarte siya, nakakalimutan ko ang linya ko. Kasi I ended up watching him,” he guffaws. “I keep on apologizing during the first few days kasi nga., pag ka-eksena ko siya, fan mode ako. I remember him saying, ‘Di, bro. tao rin naman akong katulad mo. Thank you for appreciating my craft but more than anything, gusto ko maging magkaibigan tayo.”
And because of what Echo said, Christian immediately felt comfortable.
“He was the one who reached out, he’s giving me this chance, this opportunity he made me not only as a co-worker but a friend.”
Christian carries on, “I am thankful most of all to God for this blessing. It has helped me appreciate my craft because I am surrounded by actors who lead by example. I want to believe that I was able to give life to Barry as an artist.”
His reaction to the many fans who are kilig with the Barry and Ken team up, “I am grateful to all of you who supported Halik and of course, the pairing of Barry and Ken. Hero and I appreciate all your good comments. I hope we’re able to give a smile on your faces.”
Halik is now on its last week in ABSCBN’s primetime television fare.
