Radio and television host and YouTube personality Raffy Tulfo has joined the senatorial race and wanted to push for laws that will benefit the poor and ordinary workers including OFWs.

Is Raffy Tulfo giving up his YouTube channel?
Raffy Tulfo's channel has over 21 million subscribers and is one of the top YouTube channels in the country

Speaking to the entertainment press over the weekend, the 61-year-old broadcaster said dealing with repeated offenders and the same employment issues made him believe that having a platform bigger than his YouTube channel would allow him to make solid actions.

Asked what will happen to his YouTube channel in case he gets one of the Senate seats, the “action man” said that the platform will stay and will evolve into something that carries a bigger purpose.

“Hindi ko bibitawan ang RTIA (Raffy Tulfo In Action), pero asahan nyo siguro na bago matapos yung six-year term ko baka hindi na kakailangan ang RTIA or the workers would no longer need the platform to file complaints because by that time, nakapag-file na ako ng legislation to address their problems,” Tulfo, who was nicknamed “Idol Sen” by the entertainment scribes, said.

“The channel will remain there so that in case I get elected, hindi na siya sumbungan ng mga naapi. Sumbungan na siya ng mga katiwalian sa gobyerno so that we could look into what needs to be investigated in aid of legislation,” he added.

The independent senatorial candidate promised to push measures that will promote the rights and welfare of Filipino workers- whether local overseas – and protect them from abuse.

“Araw-araw sa aking programa, karamihan sa mga lumalapit ay mga OFW at manggagawa na nakaranas ng pang-aabuso sa kanilang employers at hindi nabigyan ng tamang suweldo o benepisyo. This kind of abuse should stop,” said Tulfo, who is known for helping countless Filipinos every day in his public service programs on radio, television and online.

First on Tulfo’s legislative agenda is the creation of the Department of OFWs, which will focus on monitoring the welfare and protection of Filipino workers abroad.

“That’s first in my agenda. We will push for the creation of this body na magbibigay ng malawakang proteksiyon sa ating OFWs,” Tulfo stressed.

Part of Tulfo’s planned Department of OFW bill is the constant monitoring of OFWs in various parts of the world to ensure they are protected against maltreatment and abuse by their employers. In addition, Tulfo said he will craft a measure that will punish local employers who fail to pay the right wages and benefits to their workers.
