P-pop girl group BINI has issued a public apology after drawing backlash over a leaked video that showed three of its members laughing along to inappropriate jokes involving a minor.
On Thursday, May 8, BINI released a statement addressing the controversy, taking accountability on its members actions.
“We know that the past couple of days have been triggering and disappointing for all of you. Sincerely, we understand where all of those feelings are coming from,” the statement wrote.
“The video shows a private moment of us with friends. We definitely did not intend to hurt anyone in the process. We offer no excuse for our actions, reactions, and choice of words. We take full accountability. Nagkamali kami,” it continued.
BINI said they “deeply regret” their actions and offered an apology to their fandom BLOOMs, as well as their families and the general public.
“We humbly ask for a chance to reflect on and learn from our mistakes and continue to work on becoming better versions of ourselves,” the statement added.
On May 7, a video was uploaded on X, showing BINI’s Jhoanna, Colet, and Stacey alongside GAT member Ethan and dancer Shawn. The group appeared to be casually conversing in what fans say was a private setting, when a joke referencing a minor was made, followed by laughter.
The clip quickly went viral and triggered criticism online, with netizens accusing those in the video of downplaying grooming and setting a poor example.
GAT member Ethan’s agency, Viva Artist Agency, has also yet to respond publicly.
