At the age of 18, rising actress Ashley Sarmiento is entering a new chapter in her life, and she is doing it with a mix of excitement, maturity, and a sense of responsibility.
“I’ve been looking forward to this [milestone],” Ashley shares during a one-on-one interview with Manila Standard Entertainment.
She then begins reflecting on her transition to adulthood and the responsibilities that come with it, including the privilege of voting. And now that is already within her reach, she’s eager to make a difference.
“My advice to first-time voters like me is simple: do your research. You have the internet, you have all the access in the world to do your research, so it’s really important to know the pros and cons. It’s important to be aware because this is for us, too,” she shares.

Ashley is no stranger to setting her sights on meaningful goals, but like any teenager, she also has her share of personal wishes.
“I wish for happiness, good health, and success. But if we’re talking about something material, I’d love to have a new car. Since I was 13, watching my sister drive made me think, ‘I want to learn that too.’ It just looks so cool,” Ashley states.
As she ventures into adulthood, Ashley hopes to gain more independence in the things she wants to do.
“If my mom allows me, I’d love to go out alone—visit parks and cafes. I enjoy my alone time because I find peace in those places,” she continues.
Beyond personal freedom, Ashley also expresses her eagerness to explore her creative passions. A budding singer-songwriter, she dreams of releasing new songs or even an EP.
“I write a lot of sad love songs, but I also have some happy songs and ones about myself—though even those tend to be sad,” the Maka actress explains.
Ashley credits her groundedness and decision-making skills to the people closest to her.
“My sisters and my mom are like my guardian angels—they’re always there to guide me and correct me when I need it. And above all, I feel guided by the Lord. Surrendering my worries to Him gives me so much clarity and peace,” adds Ashley.
The rising actress also reveals some details about the upcoming celebration of her 18th birthday, sharing that she will be having a series of performances where she will be singing some of the hit tracks by Grammy-award-winning singer Taylor Swift. She will also be having a special act together with her on-screen partner and Maka co-star Marco Masa.
