People are talking about James Reid

. . . are talking about

James Reid

The singer/actor bested six other artists from the region after he was named Best Southeast Asian act at MTV EMAs 2017. The fans of James, once again, displayed their support spending hours on their PCs and mobile devices voting and rallying for their idol to ensure that he got the coveted award. It’s useful that an artist has a legion of fans that would do everything to support their idol, and it’s a good thing when the person idolized is worth all their efforts.

ABS-CBN Station ID

The Kapamilya Network officially launched its highly anticipated Christmas Station ID on Monday. The star-studded “Just LOVE” music video that emphasizes the importance of spreading love during Christmas quickly went viral after it was uploaded online. As of this writing, its lyric video has already amassed five million views on YouTube, while the official music video that runs for nine minutes has been viewed more than 600 thousand times and is currently part of the trending videos on the popular video sharing site. In comparison, the other network’s station ID that features its prized star has not even crossed the  million mark in terms of views since it was uploaded three weeks ago.

Bubble Gang

The country’s longest-running comedy show is showing no signs of slowing down as it continues to stay relevant after more than two decades on air. As the show celebrates its anniversary this month via a two-part musical, Bubble Gang is teaching us that being a hit TV show is not just all about the ratings. It lasted 22 years because it’s a performer in the numbers game and it has cultivated an elusive success and appeal that transcend generations.

. . . are not talking about

Mariel de Leon

Did her lackluster performance cause her the crown? The social media savvy showbiz scion who represented the country at the recently concluded Miss International, failed to even place in the top 15. Netizens believe that it was her lack of enthusiasm on stage, her hideous national costume and her swimsuit performance, practically all the aspects of the pageant during its live show. Mariel surely did prepare for the pageant but there were girls who trained harder and shone brighter during the finals.

The Lola’s Beautiful Show

We wouldn’t be surprised if JoWaPao’s (Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and Paolo Ballesteros) late morning talk show gets the ax soon. Like its predecessors (The Ryza Mae Show and Trops), The Lola’s Beautiful Show is no longer the strong performer it once was. Each week (or each day), the show struggles with its ratings, scoring middling viewership compared to its rival. Maybe, the audience has already seen what’s not beautiful in the show and that’s what the program producers need to find out if they are not ready yet to pull the plug.

PMPC Star Awards for TV

The award giving body’s losing credibility is a known fact a long time ago and the members of the organization couldn’t care less to change this impression. They’re too busy thinking of what they can get out of the awards shows rather than creating a transparent and credible list of winners. You don’t need experts to explain why PMPC Awards, be it for TV or movies, are always marred by controversy, politics, and network bias. No wonder, only blind devoted fans still believe in what PMPC stands for.
