Viva Holdings, Inc. (VHI) has signed a landmark agreement with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to protect the intellectual property of its creators, artists, and affiliated companies across various e-commerce platforms.
The agreement, on April 8, named VHI as the signatory on behalf of 37 Viva companies, including future subsidiaries, with business interests ranging from film and TV production to music, cosmetics, food, and fitness studios.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) aims to curb piracy and counterfeiting across digital marketplaces by providing a direct mechanism for IP enforcement on major platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, Zalora, and TikTok.
“This is great news for all creators and artists under the Viva fold,” said Viva chairman and chief executive officer Vic del Rosario, Jr.
“Viva is the leading content provider in the country. It is only right that we provide all those involved with us the maximum protection of their intellectual property against piracy and counterfeiting,” he continued.
Del Rosario emphasized that the MOU extends IP protection to Viva’s creative community, including directors, writers, and songwriters, by enabling faster responses to online piracy and unauthorized sales of exclusive Viva-distributed products, including its beauty and personal care lines.
Founded in 1998, IPOPHL is the government agency mandated to oversee and enforce intellectual property rights in the country. Its role in fostering innovation and economic growth is bolstered through partnerships such as this, particularly as online commerce continues to grow.
“The IPO E-commerce MOU serves as an express lane to the e-commerce platforms for piracy and counterfeiting concerns of content and product owners such as Viva,” Del Rosario added.
Present at the signing ceremony were IPOPHL Director General Attorney Brigitte M. da Costa Villaluz, supervising director Attorney Christine Pangilinan-Canlapan, OIC-Division chief Attorney Reggie Anne Pamatian, and other representatives from the Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Office.
Representing Viva alongside Del Rosario were Vincent del Rosario III, president of Viva; Veronique del Rosario-Corpuz, president of Viva Artists Agency and Viva Beauty Group; Valerie Salvador del Rosario, president of Studio Viva; and Verb del Rosario, president of Viva Music Group.
Both parties view the partnership as a proactive step toward creating a safer digital space for Filipino creators and consumers alike.
