Gerard Butler’s ‘Plane’ lands on PH screens today

The 2023 survival thriller Plane, starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter, is now available for streaming in the Philippines via Lionsgate Play.

Directed by Jean-François Richet, the film follows pilot Brodie Torrance (Butler) as he makes an emergency landing on a remote island in the southern Philippines after a violent storm disrupts a flight from Singapore to Honolulu. What begins as a routine flight quickly turns into a struggle for survival when armed rebels seize the crash survivors.

Torrance’s only ally is Louis Gaspare (Colter), a fugitive under FBI escort. The two men work together to protect the remaining passengers and escape the island.

Plane has earned strong reviews, with a 79 percent critics rating and a 94 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. After its U.S. debut on Starz in 2024, the film rose to No. 1 on Peacock’s Top 10 Movies chart in March. A sequel, titled Ship, is currently in development.

In an interview with MovieWeb, Butler, who also produced the film, said the project’s fast-paced narrative drew him in. “You are stuck with them the whole way through this, and then they basically land in hell,” he said.

Plane is now streaming in the Philippines through Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home and Smart.
