P-pop acts to headline first Waterbomb fest in Manila

Manila will host a star-studded lineup for Waterbomb Festival on Feb. 22 and 23. The music festival will feature a mix of international and local artists.

The first day of the festival will see performances from hip-hop legend Epik High, known for its introspective lyrics and genre-blending sound, and Dynamic Duo’s Choiza and Gaeko, who gained fame in 2004 with their debut album Taxi Driver.

Seasoned singer Kim Jong Kook, popular for his role in Running Man, will also perform, along with EXO’s Chanyeol, MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, and former NU’EST member Baekho, who is now making waves as a solo artist. Other performers include B.I, IZ*ONE members-turned-soloists Kwon Eunbi and Lee Chaeyeon, girl group STAYC, and DJ ROOTS.

On Feb. 23, the festival will feature a powerhouse lineup, including chart-topping rapper Jessi and former Wonder Girls member Sunmi. Vocalist Hyolyn, formerly of SISTAR, will also take the stage, alongside GOT7’s BamBam, hip-hop artist Gray, and soloist Kang Daniel.

Additional performances will come from comedian and singer Yang Sechan, electro-house duo Insidecore, and girl groups Oh My Girl, Siena Girls, and VIVIZ.

Waterbomb Manila will also spotlight local talent, with three Filipino acts performing during the festival. Day 1 will feature GMA Sparkle artist Thea Astley, who rose to fame as The Clash season two runner-up and a regular on All-Out Sundays.

On Day 2, P-pop acts BILIB and ZÉLA will represent the Philippines.

BILIB, a seven-member boy group under AQ Prime Music, has quickly gained recognition since its debut in July 2023. Known for hits like “Tawag” and “Say What You Wanna Say,” the group has made waves in the P-pop scene, winning awards at the 2024 Miss World Philippines and 16th PMPC Star Awards.

Group member Yukito shared his excitement about performing at Waterbomb Manila for the first time, stating, “We’ve been working hard to perfect our performance, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve prepared.”

ZÉLA, who debuted in September 2023 with “Karma,” has also been gaining attention. Known for her playful anthem “Pogi Boy,” she was named 2023 Philippine Pop Top New Artist of the Year. She will perform at Waterbomb Manila on Feb. 23, bringing her blend of singing, modeling, and acting to the stage.

ZÉLA is determined to make an impact, saying, “It’s a huge platform for a newbie artist like myself. I’ll do my best and ensure they get the performance they expect.”

The festival will not only feature performances but also water activities such as water gun battles, pool parties, zip-lining, and bungee jumping. Fans can enjoy food vendors, photo booths, and retail stalls throughout the event.

Waterbomb, originally launched in 2015 in South Korea, has expanded internationally to cities like Dubai, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Combining EDM, hip-hop, K-pop, and R&B with thrilling water-based fun, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
