After his win as Best Supporting Actor in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival for his role in Green Bones, which also took home the Best Picture award, many are wondering if Ruru Madrid would become more selective when it comes to future projects.
Addressing this matter, Ruru emphasized the importance of collaboration with his team and management, Sparkle. He noted that they are now more cautious and meticulous in evaluating offers.
“We can’t afford to be complacent, especially with Green Bones being both critically acclaimed and a box office success. It’s a difficult project to follow,” he shared. “My next project should be equally good or, ideally, even better. As long as there’s a genuine calling for the project, I think it’s worth pursuing.”
Now that he’s an award-winning actor, does he feel his acting should level up?
“Of course! As I’ve said before, in every project I’ve taken on—even when I was just starting in the industry—I’ve always wanted to improve my craft. Every single day, my goal is to push myself to the limits and eventually become the best version of myself. That’s why I don’t want to be pitted against other actors. For me, my main competition is myself. I want to consistently show something new in my performances and have a fresh version of myself emerge each time.”
Speaking of projects, Ruru leads the cast of GMA’s latest primetime offering, Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan, a production notable for its large scope and impressive scale.
“I’m super thankful to GMA. After Black Rider, which was a certified ratings hit, here comes another action series that I’m headlining. I can confidently say it’s bigger than Book One,” he said.

In a recent interview, Regine Velasquez revealed her plans to return to acting in 2025.
“It’s been a while since I’ve acted on screen. It’s been, what, five years? My last film was in 2019 for the Cinema One Originals entry Yours Truly, Shirley. Now, I’m more open. If there’s an offer and the role feels right, I’ll surely consider it!” she stated.
Interestingly, Asia’s Songbird has an impressive string of box-office hits from her prime, including Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw and Till I Met You opposite Senator Robin Padilla; Dahil May Isang Ikaw, Pangako… Ikaw Lang, and Of All the Things with Aga Muhlach; Ikaw Lamang Hanggang Ngayon with Richard Gomez; and Paano Kita Iibigin opposite Piolo Pascual.
When she transferred to ABS-CBN, there were plans for her to star in a sitcom with her husband, Ogie Alcasid. What happened to that?
“Well, ABS-CBN lost its franchise, so there wasn’t much we could do about it. Hopefully, the franchise will be restored, right? But as far as acting is concerned, like I said earlier, if the role and timing are right, I’m willing to go back to acting,” Regine concluded.
