Ellen Pompeo bids farewell to Grey’s Anatomy

Ellen Pompeo, 53, the lead actress of Grey’s Anatomy, is now signing off as Meredith Grey after 19 seasons on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Pompeo played the Grey’s Anatomy character for over 400 episodes from 2005 until 2022 and announced the news of her exit from Grey’s to her fans on Instagram.

In her Instagram post, she expresses how grateful and humbled she is by the love and support that all of her fans showed her as Meredith Grey and to the show itself.

“Through it all… none of it would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You are all RIDERS, and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!,” Pompeo stated.

“I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on, and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE,” she added.

The creator and author of Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes, also posted a photo with her via  Instagram on the same day. 

“What a wild ride these past 19 seasons have been. None of it could have been possible without the incomparable @ellenpompeo, the one and only Meredith and Grey Sloan Memorial. #greysanatomy,” Shonda stated. 

Grey’s Anatomy is an American medical TV series that debuted as a midway through the season replacement on ABC on March 27, 2005. The show depicts the everyday lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings as they advance in their careers while juggling their personal and professional lives. 

Meredith Grey is the lead character in the show, played by Pompeo, who has portrayed the character since its inception.
