What’s next for the new Queen of Genovia?

After almost two decades of rumors and talks about the third installment of the popular franchise, The Princess Diaries 3 is finally in development at Disney.

In a The Hollywood Reporter exclusive, the script will be penned by Reacher and Super Girl writer Aadrita Mukerji and produced by the returning franchise veteran Debra Martin Chase, the one also responsible for the first two films.

Reports say the new installment will continue the Anne Hathaway-led films rather than a reboot. However, her involvement in the movie remains unknown as of writing.

Hathaway isn’t obliged by any contract to reprise her role as Princess Mia Thermopolis but has publicly shown her support and interest in the third installment with her on-screen grandmother Julie Andrews. But Andrews’s return as the posh Queen Clarisse Renaldi is also ambiguous.

Given the popularity he The Princess Diaries and the number of rumors about the third installment, fans are joyed to finally have a real chance to be transported back to the royal world of Genovia and see what more Disney has for its story.
