Since she was young, Filipino-Japanese actress Yana Fuentes has always wanted to be a part of Philippine showbiz. So, despite the pandemic and her flourishing career in Japan, she set out for the Philippines to pursue her childhood dream.

Filipino-Japanese actress Yana Fuentes believes she doesn’t have to show too much skin to prove she has talent

Under AQ Prime, she realized several of her goals as an artist, including becoming a leading lady and working with the veteran director Joel Lamangan for his movie Peyri Teyl. From there, Yana has been working on projects left and right.

One of her recent endeavors is the movie Pula Ang Kulay Ng Gabi by director Jojo Nadela. Here, she plays a lead role that requires her to bare some skin, “but not too much.” Nadela wanted to use sex to get a message across rather than letting it dominate the scene.

Meanwhile, Yana doesn’t want to go any more daring than she did for the movie. She doesn’t see going nude as the stepping stone to having a successful career in showbiz. Instead, she believes she only needs to show her talent, not her skin, to achieve her goals. Doing so allows her to protect her image and set the public’s expectations of what she can do.

Aside from knowing her boundaries when doing sexy scenes, Yana also has a concrete plan of what she wants to do in the future. She plans on becoming an action star, which is why she’s already keeping in shape when the time comes. The Fil-Jap actress also wants to show her skills in dramatic acting.

Yana knows she still has a lot to work on before she can call her craft perfect. She’s willing to attend acting workshops to expand her skills further.

Yana has a concrete plan for her career and wants to maintain an image in the industry

In Pula Ang Kulay Ng Gabi, Yana stars alongside Zia Zamora and Aljur Abrenica. It was the first time Yana and Zia worked with Aljur in the film, and they didn’t have any workshops to help them warm up to each other before shooting the intimate scenes.

While both lead actresses assumed Aljur to be snobbish, they were surprised to learn that he was kind and gentlemanly. Zia even said that Aljur was protective of her when they did their scenes.

Director Nadela also saw Aljur as very professional. Although the hunk actor wanted to protect his image as an artist, he listened intently to the director’s instructions and suggestions until he executed Nadela’s vision for the film.

Nadela drew inspiration for Pula Ang Kulay Ng Gabi from a true story told involving his late stunt director, Mang Boy.

Some years ago, Mang Boy rented his downstairs area to four men who brought paint and shovels. Thinking nothing of it, Mang Boy let them be to discover that they robbed the pawnshop across the street. Mang Boy nearly got apprehended since the police thought he was an accomplice but cleared his name to avoid complications.

The director wanted to tell this story to the audience but added more cinematic flair by including Yana and Zia’s characters into the mix.
