Power of Bong’s amulet activated

It is easy to understand why Agimat ng Agila is loved as a weekend family viewing habit. Seeing the first episode of its second season just reinforced the fact that even advertisers love the program topbilled by actor and politician Bong Revilla.

A tragedy story arc hooks the loyal televiewers with Major Gabriel Labrador (Revilla) of Task Force Kalikasan, going to the motion of his existence sans his wife.

Gabriel’s moving on does not come trouble-free as the pain of losing the ones he loved the most still throbs and the departure of Maya (Sanya Lopez) adds another layer of hurt.

As he carries on to fulfill his duties as a cop, danger forever lurks with the death of the people dearest to him becoming collateral damages.

Lopez’s dramatic demise to this amulet-centric TV show was truly a riveting ingredient. It pulled the heartstrings because the manner that Revilla displayed the loss and sorrow that Gabriel experiences, was agonizing to witness. Revilla was successful to show viewers Gabriel’s vulnerable side.

In the second season, Labrador’s main objective is to retrieve an ancient evil amulet, which power defies science and the natural way of things.

Adding more intrigue and thrill is the character of the oh-so-cutey Kim de Leon as Jumong, the unknowing young man who Gabriel will take as a ward.

Gabriel’s latest antagonist is Gardo Verzoza as Zeus Limjoco, an affluent businessman whose wealth comes from business shenanigans.

It seems like Zeus is not only aware but also covets the talisman. And for sure, the upcoming amazing race between Gabriel and Zeus in retrieving it makes for a compelling watch.

Agimat ng Agila is an impressive TV production because aside from the fact that it offers a curious take on a talisman with superlative powers, it offers never-before-seen action sequences on local TV. Its narrative that weaves perfectly cosmopolitan truths and magical elements, and the acting performances make the show a true stand out.

It is refreshing to watch Bong Revilla as a protagonist, who despite his special powers, gets to cry, express hurt, and bewilderment. Revilla shows his protective and caring side, a macho man still but is loving. Revilla looks fit and truly telegenic.

Kudos as well to the great Elizabeth Oropesa, who with her platinum hair, strikes as a mysterious female power. It’s obvious how Oropesa made an emotional investment in the character assigned to her.

And this Kim De Leon, his presence screams star and heartthrob. There is something about Kim that pushes your imagination to scenes of cuddling and spooning with him.

Rabiya Mateo appears in the succeeding episode and based on the teaser, promising is the adjective that best suits her.

Engrossing storyline, check. The narrative that makes people all the more curious about what happens next, double-check. Well executed action sequences, triple check. And the quadruple check, goes to the acting of the cast that gives a high level of emotional commitment and truth to their characters.

Now we all know why Agimat ng Agila is a TV hit.
