Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. continues his crusade to protect the environment as Major Gabriel Labrador in GMA’s action-packed fantasy drama series Agimat ng Agila.

In the first episode of season two, which premiered on January 29, viewers saw that the series took it up a notch in the action scenes and narrative as its story explores the different elements of action, adventure, drama, fantasy, and romance.

“Talagang nag-level up tayo dahil we have to surpass the first one. Kailangan mas matindi at mas pinalaki,” said Bong during an online media conference for the series.

Addressing the series’ head writer Jojo Tawasil Nones, the senator commended him for doing an exemplary job of exploring all the possible avenues to make the story complex and gripping.

He added that another aspect that audiences should keep an eye out for is the performance of his talented co-stars. Reprising her role as Serpenta is Kapuso actress and beauty queen Michelle Dee.

Kapuso actress and Miss World 2019 Michelle Dee

It’s no secret in the entertainment industry that Michelle takes her acting seriously, which is why audiences commend her for nailing her role in Agimat ng Agila, where she plays a strong female character that’s different from what she used to do.

Yet, as Bong said, there’s more to expect from the series’ second season. Last Saturday, February 12, Miss Universe 2020 Rabiya Mateo surprised fans with her acting skills as she takes on the role of Bong’s new leading lady.

Agimat ng Agila is Rabiya’s debut series since she signed in as a Kapuso actress in November last year. Although just a newbie, Rabiya impressed her co-stars as she strived to show her more badass side compared to being a beauty queen.

Rabiya plays the role of Agent Asha Raj and will work closely with Gabriel as they uncover secrets and foil their enemies’ plans. Viewers will also see a spark between the pair as their adventures take them down intimate paths.

They say that “third time’s the charm,” and with two Filipino beauty queens already joining the star-studded cast of Agimat ng Agila, adding a third pageant queen to the series brings more flair to the story as well as a platform for the ladies to show their acting skills in a hybrid genre.

Also joining the cast is Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa, who plays Rosebud in Agimat ng Agila. Although not much is known about her character, as she’s yet to appear in the series, MJ teased that she’s an ordinary character with an extraordinary revelation that viewers shouldn’t miss.

Bong said that casting the three stunning queens wasn’t deliberate. It just so happened that the network chose to put them together in the series, a decision that paid off as Agimat ng Agila continues to receive glowing reviews from its audience.

Directed by the award-winning Rico Gutierrez, the series’ other cast members include Elizabeth Oropesa, Benjie Paras, Betong Sumaya, Kim de Leon, Lia Salvador, Sandro Muhlach, and Shermaine Santiago.

Catch Agimat ng Agila every Saturday at 7:15 p.m. on GMA-7.
