Veteran comedian Don Pepot passes on

Veteran comedian Ernesto Fajardo, popularly known as Don Pepot, passed on Tuesday night (Jan. 18) at the Veteran Memorial Hospital in Quezon City. He was 88.

His son, Michael Fajardo, announced the comedian’s passing on Facebook.

Fajardo’s son also confirmed that the beloved comedian succumbed to acute respiratory failure brought on by COVID-19. Also stated in the post were details about his wake to be held at Solennelle Funeral Homes at Valenzuela, along Maysan Road. The family added that Don Pepot’s remains will be cremated. 

On Jan. 22, the family of the late Fajardo will open the memorial service to the public to allow his fans to view his remains. 

Don Pepot began his career in the entertainment industry in the 1960s. His first film was Show Business (1964). He eventually rose to fame and became known for his comedic roles in films and performing alongside distinguished comedians such as the late Comedy King Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon

The late veteran comedian, according to the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), appeared in over a hundred local films during his active years. Over the years, Don Pepot explored the various facets and genres of Philippine cinema and appeared in films such as Shake Rattle & Roll V, Oki Doki Doc: The Movie, and S2pid Luv. His final project was Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote, at Si Ako, which aired during the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Later in 2005, Don Pepot received the Lou Salvador Sr. Memorial Award during the 53rd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards for his contributions to Philippine cinema. 

Apart from his natural talent on-screen, Don Pepot is also known for his likable personality and fashion sense. His passing saddened not only his family but also his loyal fans, who he made happy throughout his fruitful career in the industry.
