The most beautiful day in the universe finally happened last Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena as 86 universal and talented beauties competed for the prestigious Miss Universe crown.
But that day can’t even be more beautiful for the lady wearing the sash of France, Iris Mittenaere, as she bested all the women who graced the Miss Universe 2016 stage. And now that the spotlight is on her, let’s get to know her a little better:
Historical beauty queen
Born in Lillie in Nord Pas de Calais region in Northern France, she is the second French woman to win the Miss Universe title since Christiane Martel in 1953, ending the 63-year drought for France. Also, she is the first European to take the crown since 2002.
A dental surgeon in the making
The 24-year old stunner is currently in her fifth year of study in dental surgery. Throughout the Miss Universe competition, her platform is advocating dental and oral hygiene that she plans to continue campaigning during her Miss Universe reign.
Extreme sports fanatic
Iris is a huge fan of extreme sports. She has tried skydiving, bungee jumping, and hang gliding. In her Instagram account, Iris shares photos of her extreme sports experiences with her fans and followers,
She’s a kitchen master
Iris enjoys cooking especially French dishes. In an interview, she mentioned that if the competition had a talent portion, she would have showcased her cooking skills.
Another ‘confidently beautiful with a heart’
Besides describing herself as fresh, funny, and caring in her MU profile, Iris also said that she enjoys making others happy. She has been a volunteer at Bienvenue-Tonga Soa, an association that promote and finance economic and social humanitarian actions and projects, and at Les Bonnes Feès that aims to intervene with people to help improve their living conditions.
