DJ Papa Jack on TV5

POPULAR DJ Papa Jack has a new weekly show over at TV5 titled Call Me Papa Jack which promises to bring his signature humor, candid commentary and brutally frank advice style to the fore.

“This early, I’m excited with this project. It’s a one-hour show in which I interact and interview various celebrities and personalities who, for the very first time will reveal their fair share of heartbreaks. Among my line-up of guests are: Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno, Brett Jackson, Marc Tupaz, Valeen Montenegro, Julia Clarete, Bianca King and Ynna Asistio. In general, we will talk about love and life, topics which definitely appeal to the Filipino viewers. I’m sure they can relate to every situation and experience our guests will share on screen,” he says.

He is known for giving pieces of advice in just a snap of a finger. Many ask where this ability comes from and how he does it.

“Actually, the first step is to create a ‘Timeline’ and ‘Profile.’ Before I give my piece, I see the whole picture first, analyze all the sides to the issue. Sometimes, because we are bitter, we forget to check the parts of the story when we were happy. So for me, it’s important to view the whole scenario and see where the problem really emanated. One thing more, I’m a good listener—I’ve always believed that it’s the key to being a good adviser.”

Despite his brutally frank style in giving advice, what the public doesn’t know is that the 33-year-old has his soft side, too.

“That’s true!” admits Papa Jack or John Gemperle in real life. “I’m an emotional guy. I cry off air while my listener tells his or her sad story. I may sound too strong but actually, I’m a cry baby.”

Curiously, is there one love question in particular that he found very hard to answer?

“Believe it or not, it’s about how to move on from a broken relationship. For me, it’s hard to give an accurate advice regarding that. Moving on is like your immune system. It’s like it depends on your body on how to combat the illness. Moving on depends on the person involved, how he or she does it according to style!”

Many say that he has already surpassed Joe D’ Mango.

“I wouldn’t buy that thought! He will always be my idol. He paved the way for modern-day DJs like me to give love advice on air. I still pale in comparison with all his accomplishments in the field. I will forever be his fan!”

Lastly, television and radio are two different mediums. What would be his adjustments now that he juggles his time in both?

“I know! Perhaps, I have to learn how to be more relaxed and comfortable on screen. I’m a bit of a camera-shy. Anyway, I’m willing to learn. This is a brand new experience for me. I’m grateful to those who believe that I can do a little bit more,” ends Papa Jack.

Eula Caballero dismisses the rumor that she is jealous of fellow Kapatid talent Jasmine Curtis-Smith when it comes to projects and exposure as many say the latter is the current favorite of the management.

“That’s baloney! Actually, that controversy reached me already and I just find it immaterial,” she avers.

According to the charming lass, she’s friends with Jasmine.

“We’ve already worked together a couple of times and she is a nice gal. I only have good words for her. And one thing, jealousy doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. Ever since, I never took it against TV5 if they get new stars. In fairness to them, they take good care of me. The management has huge plans for all of their  stars so I need not worry!”

At this point, many miss her doing soap operas.

“Yes! I also miss it. Of late, I’ve been doing Wattpad Presents which is just week-long. But at least, I’m given the chance to portray different characters apart from its good ratings. I’m still hoping though that I’ll soon be given another major soap opera,” says Eula.
