JENNYLYN Mercado ended 2014 with a bang by winning the Best Actress plum in the recently-concluded Metro Manila Film Festival for her work in the romantic-comedy English Only, Please opposite Derek Ramsay.

“I’m really thankful to the Lord for such recognition!” she says. “It’s my first major acting award. I guess, it won’t turn out this if weren’t for the people who pushed me to do the project like our producer, Atty. Joji Alonso. There’s also our director Dan Villegas who’s been very patient and supportive. Of course, I’m grateful as well to my leading man Derek who’s a very giving actor and to all those who continue to believe in what I can offer in my craft until now!”

Many are asking if she expected to win.

“Honestly, I didn’t. I knew that it was a heavy field and to be nominated is already an honor. It really came as a surprise especially since it was my first comedy movie. It was one rare project which I don’t get to do every day and yet, it gave me my first acting trophy. I really feel proud!”

At first, many had reservations with her team-up with Derek, doubting if they had chemistry. But they were able to prove how charming they could be on screen.

“It’s simply amazing that the viewers liked the movie and as I’ve said, it’s our first rom-com and it became successful. Derek and I can’t forget this movie because it gave us acting awards. Through the movie, we were able to show that we could also excel in comedy apart from the usual drama stuff viewers are used to seeing us in. It’s a breath of fresh air for us, so to speak.”

Due to the triumph of their first project as a screen pair, is she hoping for a follow-up vehicle for her and Derek?

“Definitely!” avers Jen. “I really enjoyed working with him. Personally, I’m looking forward to doing more of this genre next year!”

On the personal side, the pretty Kapuso actress recently posted in her Instagram account a picture of her and son Alex Jazz together with Patrick Garcia and his current steady Nikka Martinez which made a lot of people raise eyebrows.

“Well, that photo was taken in my house. Actually, Patrick and Nikka are frequent visitors. I don’t see anything surprising with that since they go there to see Jazz.”

It appears that she’s chummy with her former lover’s present girlfriend.

“Oh yes! Nikka and I are okay. She’s a nice and kind gal,” reveals Jennylyn.

Another big winner in the recent 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival awards night is Ryzza Mae Dizon who bagged the Best Child Performer trophy for My Big Bossing. It can be remembered that the popular child star also got the same recognition last year for My Little Bossing.

“Of course, I’m very happy and proud for this award. It’s second in a row. I consider it as my best Christmas gift,” she avers.

“Aleng Maliit” has numerous people to thank for as she reaches another milestone in her showbiz career.

“First of all, I’m grateful to Papa God for all the blessings I received the past year. Then, there is my mom and my Eat Bulaga family, my Dabarkads. Of course, my heartfelt thanks to all the people who trooped to the theaters to watch My Big Bossing and made it a hit. I offer my acting trophy to all of them!”

People want to know what to expect from her this 2015.

“I promise to keep on getting better in my craft: from hosting to acting. I owe it to my fans so they deserve only the best entertainment, right?”

As expected, My Big Bossing is a commercial success. Some say she should be tagged as Box-office Princess.

“Oh, thank you if they think I’m deserving of that title. I hope that those who haven’t watched yet will find time to see the movie,” Ryzza Mae states.
