29th NREA-DHSUD National Convention concludes, charting a course for innovative and sustainable real estate development

The 29th National Real Estate Association (NREA) and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) National Convention, themed “Elevating Philippine Real Estate Innovation, Sustainability, and Inclusive Growth,” successfully concluded last March 7, 2025 at the Ayala Hall of Makati Sports Club. Over two days, the convention fostered robust dialogue, knowledge sharing, and strategic collaboration among industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders, addressing the pressing challenges and opportunities within the Philippine real estate sector

The convention, which commenced on March 6, 2025, witnessed a remarkable turnout of almost 400 participants, including local government unit (LGU) executives, real estate professionals, and industry experts. The event began with the official opening by chairman Imelda Magtoto, followed by welcoming remarks from NREA national president lawyer Amador Tolentino, who emphasized NREA’s commitment to advancing the real estate sector.

According to NREA executive vice president and overall convention chairman Ma. Loren Sales, key highlights of the convention included a Strong LGU Participation. The convention saw significant participation from LGUs, with mayors, governors, and representatives actively engaging in discussions, underscoring the crucial role of local governance in housing development.

Keynote Addresses and Expert Panels. DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino “Jerry” Acuzar, represented by Undersecretary Randy Escolango, delivered a pivotal keynote address. Expert panels addressed critical issues such as strengthening local governance in housing, leveraging OFWs in real estate, regulatory updates, and sustainable urban development, featuring prominent speakers like DILG Assistant Secretary Elizabeth de Leon, Rep. Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino, and architect Felino Palafox.

Focus on Regulatory Updates and Private Sector Engagement: Afternoon sessions on Day 1 provided crucial updates on the RPVARA Law, the 4PH program, and the House of Representatives’ agenda to address the housing situation, fostering a collaborative approach between the government and private sector.

Comprehensive Panel Discussions on Day 2 included panels on “Compliance and Real Estate Development” and “Inclusive, Sustainable, Resilient, and Connected Real Estate Community with Emerging Markets and Technologies & Innovations.” These discussions featured leaders from Pag-IBIG Fund, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), DTI-Board of Investments; DHSUD, Proptech Consortium of the Philippines, Colliers International, , Philippine Green Building Council and Meralco.

Emphasis on Sustainability and Innovation: Throughout the convention, there was a strong emphasis on sustainable and resilient city development, the integration of emerging technologies, and the promotion of inclusive growth within the real estate sector.

The NREA-DHSUD national convention also hosted the mass oath-taking and pinning ceremony of the real estate salespersons with approximately 321 participants. The oath-taking ceremonies was officiated by the Professional Regulatory Board for Real Estate Services (PRBRES) chairman Ofelia Binag.

The convention concluded with the presentation of plaques of appreciation to guest speakers, panelists, and moderators, acknowledging their valuable contributions. “The 29th NREA-DHSUD National Convention has been a resounding success, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration,” said Imelda Magtoto, chairman of the convention. “We are confident that the insights and strategies shared during this event will contribute significantly to the advancement of the Philippine real estate sector, fostering innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.”

The NREA and DHSUD remain committed to working together to address the nation’s housing challenges and promote a vibrant and sustainable real estate industry.
