Paskong UPLB launched in Los Baños

Bright lights illuminated the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) as the campus officially launched its holiday celebrations through the annual #PaskongUPLB lighting ceremony last Friday.

This year’s theme, “Nagniningning ang mga Puso sa Paglilingkod” (Hearts Aglow in Service), reflects the resilience and unity of the UPLB community in the face of challenges.

During his speech, Chancellor Jose Camacho highlighted the trials of 2024 and how they tested the university’s commitment to service.

“2024 has not been without its difficulties. The changes, the challenges in society—all of these have tested us in many ways. As UPLB weathered through these storms, through it all, we have proven that the community’s spirit is that of a heart ready to serve,” Camacho said.

The lighting ceremony, a highly anticipated event, drew students, faculty, and residents alike to Freedom Park, where the university’s Christmas tree and traditional belen were set up.

For Communication Arts student Seth, the event is more than just a celebration—it’s a tradition that fosters community spirit. “It’s nice to see students and families celebrating their Christmas here,” he shared.

Meanwhile, Agriculture student Cholo expressed optimism for the season, wishing to end the semester on a high note amid preparations for final exams.

The festive decorations, including the Christmas tree and the belen, will remain on display until the first week of January.
