Continuing animal welfare work: Save ALL feeds the hungry, educates humans on the law against animal cruelty

Eleven years ago, Save Animals of Love and Light- Save ALL saved 36 dogs and cats from being killed or euthanized in a pound.

Since then, Save ALL has saved and assisted in the rescue of more than 800 dogs and cats, and has had more than 300 dogs and cats spayed and neutered to lessen the number of unwanted pups and kittens who end up as strays.

Save ALL, a non-government organization registered with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), marks its 11th year in animal welfare work this Nov 29 to Dec. 6 when it saved 36 dogs and cats from being put to sleep. It was a race against time in 2013 to save the dogs and cats from death row. Animal lovers banded together, looked for adopters, asked for funds to pay for the pound fees, and transported dogs daily to the vet clinic. One by one, or in twos and fours, the dogs and cats were rescued by Save ALL that memorable, stressful week of 2013.

The dogs tested positive for distemper and being responsible rescuers, the Save ALL admin had the dogs treated first, before releasing them to their adopters. They were also dewormed and vaccinated against illnesses.

Volunteers put tarpaulins on the Animal Welfare Act in strategic places to discourage cruel acts against animals by informing them of the penalties under the law.

After this mass rescue in Metro Manila, Save ALL fed dogs and cats in several pounds with no sufficient funds for food, and rescued sick dogs and cats from these pounds, had them treated, rehabilitated, and adopted.

For the past 11 years, Save ALL has also been feeding homeless dogs and cats, and hungry, owned animals who are allowed by irresponsible owners to roam without supervision which is in violation of the law.

Sadly, a number of Filipinos do not know that the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 exists to protect animals. Acts punishable under the law include neglect, abandonment, to use dogs and cats for experiments and dog fights, slaughter of dogs for their meat, among others.

The feeding program is a year-long activity of Save ALL.

To educate humans, specially owners, on what constitutes cruelty, Save ALL has been posting tarpaulins on the provisions of the law. It has also been aggressive in its animal welfare information campaign in mainstream media and several platforms in social media.

This month, new tarpaulins on the law were posted in several areas by volunteers Maricel Mondejar (Antipolo) , Sylvia P. Ongsing (Meycauayan, Bulacan), Che Garcia (Cavite), Jhec Victoria (Pulilan, Bulacan), Sheryll Loteyro Cortezano (Binan, Laguna), Jollie Margaux Joven (Quezon City), Irene Arpon Pasaylo (Taguig), Niko Salgado (San Mateo, Rizal), Juls Rodriguez (Pasay), Katherine Lomboy (Quezon City), Dr. Pam Claveria (Paranaque), Rhea and Job Abat (Las Pinas), Freeyah Demavee (Pasay) and Rodel Francisco (Bulacan).

It is so saddening to see an owned dog so hungry. The volunteers gave him two square plates full of dog food, rice, liver, and moringa leaves.

More dogs and cats benefitted from this year’s feeding program due to donations from donors Dr. Shiba, Che Francisco, Pedigree, Nood dog food company, Mars Petcare, The Eon Group, B. G. Santos, Isaias Santos, Marco D. Solrac, and JD Carlado
