Tragedy struck. These are dreaded words, more so when one is just slowly recovering from the adverse effects of the pandemic. A ravaging storm floors you down hard as it destroys your house and valuables, and worse, takes the lives of your dear ones.

It is not as if we were not warned of the coming storm. In this part of the world, we get more than our fair share of this natural occurrence but there is no way we can get used to this devastating typhoons. They always break our hearts. We humans suffer during and after the onslaught. This recent storm, Typhoon Rai (Odette), could not have come in the most unfortunate time: Christmas and the New Year. It just multiplied the pain.

But we, Filipinos, are always there for each other. We help each other as one big community.
People and animals are suffering and the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) is helping in any way it can. We are carrying out relief efforts in parts of Aklan and Cebu by giving goods and food to humans and their animals.

IRO and AKF put up a Pet Ayuda Pawntry after repacking the donated pet food. Relieved pet owners send their thanks.

Pet owners wait in line for supplies of dog food and some groceries for humas during one of AKF’s relief goods distribution in Talisay, Cebu.

Strays and what were once pets with sheltered lives are mingling out there in debris-littered streets looking for food. People, quick with their smiles, gratefully receive donations sent through us.

Through AKF, donations were provided to Cebu City Animal Care and Control (CCACC), Island Rescue Organization (IRO) as we put up a Pet Ayuda Pawntry in Talisay City together with our friend in Cebu Canine Alliance.

Strays and pets scavenged for food in the streets of Cebu City after Typhoon Odette hit the reegion. AKF went around the city to feed the hungry animals.

Pets and starving livestock of poor people within some barrios in Aklan were also provided food supply. Bread, spread, and canned goods were shared to poor families who were grateful to have food for the Noche Buena.

It is heartbreaking to see so many hungry animals in the streets while people muster smiles on their faces. You just feel their pain.

And so thank you for donating to this relief effort, our dear AKF friends, and our gratitude goes out also to our volunteers who joined this mission.

We hope to feed more and help more in the coming days. Thank you to everyone who has been sending love and support.
