A Sara-Bongbong tandem

"The pair would be formidable, geographically and demographically."

My sources tell me that the statement of presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on the vice presidential bid of her father is not cast in stone.

She supposedly only made the announcement renouncing her bid for President in next year’s polls to stop the Duterte critics from attacking her.

As proof of this, the move to put up Sara’s regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, continues nationwide, mainly in Regions I, II and III. They are in a bid to make HNP a national political party.

I am also told that the tandem of Sara-Bongbong Marcos is growing by leaps and bounds. This tells us that President Duterte will not really run for Vice President.

I know only too well that the winning combination must come from regions like North and South. Geography and demography are a major factor, because the Philippines is still tribal in culture and tradition.

This would make the Sara-Bongbong tandem a formidable and winning combination.

The entry of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno into national politics has brought forth a lot of speculation. If Yorme were to run with somebody, who will it be? Or is he running alone for the presidency? There are moves in the part of the Yellows to pair him with Vice President Leni Robredo.

But the opposition is clearly divided. So what chance does Isko have?

In my opinion Isko is not yet ready for the presidency or vice presidency. Considering the fact that he has great potential, it would be a pity if he tried his luck now, and lost. Not at this time when the opposition is clearly divided. Isko is still young — I believe he should wait.

With Isko Moreno in the race for President in 2022, the race is now a five-way race – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Senator Ping Lacson (running with Senate President Tito Sotto), Senator Manny Pacquiao, Vice President Leni Robredo and Isko Moreno, my gulay!

If you ask me who I think will make it, I still believe that the tandem of Sara-Bongbong Marcos is most formidable.

The move of Ombudsman Samuel Martires to criminalize comments on SALNs (Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth) brings up several questions: (1) Who is he protecting? (2)Why is Martires very protective of the President? (3) As a former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, isn’t he aware of the provisions of the Constitution on the accountability of public officers and employees? (4) What ever happened to transparency that Duterte has vowed to observe; and (5) If the officials have nothing to hide, why are they so fearful of making their SALNs known to the public?

I saw that video of presidential spokesman Harry Roque losing his temper

in a meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

If this is the kind of person speaking on behalf of Duterte, the President doesn’t need enemies!

The doctors were almost in tears trying to explain the predicament of the frontliners in hospitals. My gulay, if I were Duterte, I would have fired Roque on the spot.

Remember that Roque wants to become a senator. Well, there goes his chance for a Senate seat. The people will not tolerate arrogant behavior.

What Roque did just takes the cake.
