State of denial

“It grips BBM-Sara poll rivals.”

Presidential race frontrunner former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. (BBM) and frontrunner-mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have reportedly reached out to their rival candidates with an offer of partnership in nation building.

The BBM-Sara UniTeam has extended a hand of reconciliation and “sportsmanship” in the spirit of national unity even as the tandem emerged as the impending runaway winners based on major survey projections of the upcoming May 9 elections.

With 21 days or three weeks left until more than 67 million Filipinos go out and vote, anything is still possible but all indications are BBM and Inday Sara are poised to triumph as they widen their lead, according to reputable poll surveys.

The latest Pulse Asia survey shows BBM mustering 56 percent share of the votes, ahead by more than 30 percent of Vice President Leni Robredo who placed second with 24 percent of the votes.

With a margin as large, Inday Sara on the other hand leads Senate President Tito Sotto in the vice-presidential derby.

Reliable sources said that results of a recent Social Weather Station (SWS) poll yet to be disclosed show BBM and Inday Sara maintaining their “comfortable” leads over their respective rivals.

The Uniteam tandem has yielded the same showing in a just-concluded Octa Research Group survey, garnering an over-30-percent advantage over Robredo.

In a Publicus Asia survey, BBM posted 55 percent of the votes against Robredo’s 21-percent preference votes.

The same is true for Inday-Sara who leads by 30 percent over comedian turned senator Sotto and Robredo’s running mate, Sen. Francisco “Kiko” Pangilinan.

Robredo and other BBM’s opponents, however, have shown no surrender feelers as they remain in a somewhat “state of denial.”

Despite massive supporters’ defections, presidential wannabes Manila Mayor Fracisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson vowed to fight to the end.

Unfortunately for them, all the mudslinging directed against BBM did not work, and time is running out for playing catch-up with the frontrunner UniTeam, as it has become mathematically improbable to do so with the divided Opposition.

I would say they should come out of the state of denial and seriously consider BBM and Inday Sara’s call for national unity, especially during these critical times of post-COVID pandemic recovery.

It is about time they came to grips with reality and stop fantasizing about becoming the next tenant in Malacañang Palace.

Political analysts have noted that this is the first time in the history of Philippine elections that a presidential candidate leads by over 30 percent, an almost “insurmountable” lead as the race nears the homestretch.

A BBM-Sara majority victory looms – it is a marriage made in heaven that we haven’t seen for quite a while.

As it is said, if you cannot beat them, you might as well join them.
