We are not alone

‘Extraterrestrial’ is no longer a laughing matter.

“We are not alone. The truth is out there, somewhere.”

One has come across these statements before spoken with certitude by true believers from all walks of life. We are talking here of what for years have come to be tagged as Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) catching the attention of the public with all kinds of claims and stories of what these sightings are all about.

Every so often we are regaled with discussions about these objects which gained more prominence with the release of that blockbuster movie “E.T.” (Extraterrestrial) fuelling renewed interest in the subject. Even the highly respected and just departed Prince Philip reportedly showed interest on the subject as were other prominent personalities such as former US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and even a number of former CIA and Defense officials.

In fact, these sightings have engendered the establishment of task forces within governments and even private “discussion” groups meant to probe deeper into the whys and wherefores of these sightings.

Like all others who have had the opportunity to go through part of the literature, scan science magazines or even comic books which used to be the go-tyo materials for such curiosity, we have developed a level of understanding which permitted us to have an open mind about all these reported sightings including those declared as classified for years by investigators at the US Department of Defense and their counterparts in the United Kingdom and other European countries.

Now we are being led to another episode of this long-running storytelling with the confirmation by no less than the US Navy that the leaked photos of such objects in 2019 were indeed recordings of their own pilots hovering over their warships off the coast of California. These 2019 recordings of “aerial phenomena” were similar to those caught by pilots from the carrier group USS Nimitz on reconnaissance flights also off California in 2004 and by pilots from the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier group on similar maneuvers in 2007 this time off the eastern coast of the United States.

This admission has again fuelled intense scrutiny from all quarters attended no less by widespread media coverage motivating yet again theories and speculations about these developments. Some experts and investigators have noted that these phenomena may have been caused by instrument or software malfunction, human observational illusion (parallax) or interpretive error or common aircraft like a passenger airliner or an aerial device like a weather balloon. These sightings have prompted a spokesman for the US Navy to advise that these reported intrusions could be attributed to the “rise in the availability of unmanned aerial systems such as quadrocopters” necessitating the issuance of new reporting guidelines to ensure that these do not compromise the country’s sovereignty and national security.”

No less than Senator Marco Rubio advised that while official reports have been “inconclusive” as to the nature of these objects he feared that the “UFOs in the video may be Chinese of Russian technology.”

That concern was shared by Retired Admiral Gary Roughead, who commanded both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets before serving as Chief of Naval Operations from 2007 to 2011, who commented that the “development of unmanned autonomous aircraft that had the capability to be used as submersible military assets was a priority of the US, as well as other nations such as China and Russia.”

The most famous example of a UAP which, as feared by Senator Rubio and Admiral Roughead , occurred when Navy pilots reported a craft resembling a Tic Tac that “was not behaving  by the normal laws of physics” and moving unlike anything seen in the U.S arsenal. However, the report noted that the craft’s movement was typical of both military and civilian UFO reports, that is, “it was descending from 80,000 feet to 20,000 feet in an instant; stopping in midair and reversing direction without inertial effects; exceeding the speed of sound without generating a sonic boom; and submerging into the ocean.”

With the official release and acknowledgement of these video recordings, the US has now reversed its official position on UFOs now called unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAPs) organizing (or should we say reorganizing) a task force to tackle the subject openly charging it with providing deeper recognition and a more rigorous look at these phenomena and, better still, as in the case of Operation Warp Speed for the production of Covid 19 vaccines undertake the needed life changing innovation to face up to this development. “Extraterrestrial” is no longer a laughing matter.

Organized last June on the prodding of Senator Rubio and signed off by former President Trump as part of the Covid relief bill before he left he left the White House, the  task force was ordered to submit an unclassified report on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) to Congress as early as June 2021.

The forthcoming report to be issued by the defense department and intelligence agencies should be able to provide “plausible explanations” about these UAPs, said former US Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe.  Our analysts, Ratcliffe noted, try to explain it as a potential weather disturbance or other routine spectacle noting that US military pilots and satellites have recorded “a lot more” sightings of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs including previously unknown sightings all over the world many of which have never been made public.

Said Ratcliffe: “Some of those have been declassified. And when we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by navy or air force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery, that frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don’t have the technology for.”

So there. We wait with bated breath for the issuance of this much-heralded report which, hopefully, will enlighten a public long accustomed to hearing “We Are Not Alone.”
