Mary Jane Cabie Recede, 53

Mary Jane Cabie Recede, an alumna of the University of San Carlos in Cebu and a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Japan and Taiwan, died Thursday in her hometown in Minglanilla, Cebu, her family said. She was 53.

She was surrounded by her sisters, children, nephews and nieces at her home as she fought courageously until 10:12 am Thursday.

Recede, widowed since 2012 when her husband Ponciano of Lipa, Batangas died, left behind her three children—licensed pharmacist Tai Ching Kate, college freshman Mon Philip Keith, and senior high school student Coleen Angelica Zoe—sisters Marilyn, Mariflor, Marivic and Mary Anne, five nephews, three nieces and three brothers-in-law.

Recede is the third of eight children of Florencio Cabie of Pinili, Ilocos Norte, who worked as electronic data processor of the now defunct Paper Industries Corporation of the Philippines in Mangagoy, Surigao del Sur, and the former Vicenta Tampos, a retired public school teacher from Medellin Cebu.

Her brothers Vicente, Bernardo IV and Dexter have since passed away, as have her parents.

She worked as an OFW with the Japan-based Izumi Machine Manufacturing and later in Taiwan, also with the same company.

On her return to the Philippines, she became a sales agent of the Metro Manila-based St. Peter Life Plan and a freelance realtor on the side.

Recede is the niece of Honor Blanco Cabie, opinion editor of Manila Standard.

Her remains will be brought to the Mount Carmel Chapel at the Vel Pal Estate subdivision in Minglanilla on Thursday with the public viewing starting Friday.

Memorial and burial arrangements are being prepared by the family.
